PIA
Aircraft Hangar (Frederick N. Ley
Collection) |
|
This
rare color photograph belongs to Fred's collection. The photo
was taken in late 1960s and it shows a PIA aircraft hangar
from outside of Dacca Airport, Tejgaon, near Jahangir Gate,
Dacca Cantonment, East Pakistan. Note cycle rickshaw carrying students of
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Shaheen School. The small building-like part atop the roof is typical
extension to first generation hangars from the prop time that
became too low for modern jetliners. Additions to hangars like
this were done to accommodate higher tails of Boeing 707s and
720Bs. Most first generation hangars were wide enough to
accommodate the span of 707s and 720Bs, but not tall enough |
