Tail section of crashed PIA Airbus
A300 aircraft
registration AP-BCP resting on the side of a mountain some 9
nautical miles south of Kathmandu Airport, Nepal. On September
28, 1992, AP-BCP was performing PIA flight PK268 from Karachi to
Kathmandu with 12 crew members and 155 passengers onboard.
During landing approach to Kathmandu Airport, the aircraft
struck a hill. All 167 people aboard the aircraft died in this
accident.
The A300 smashed into the rocky face
of the mountain, the last ridge before the clear and easy
approach over rice paddies to Kathmandu Airport, only seven
miles away. Most of the aircraft fuselage disintegrated on
impact and the tail section slid down the mountainside |
