Capt. Syed Shamim Akbar served
PIA as pilot for 35 years. He joined PIA in year 1955 and
performed his last flight for the airline as Boeing 747 commander in
year 1990. Capt. Syed Shamim Akbar was also decorated with
Tamgha-e-Pakistan by the President of Pakistan for piloting PIA
aircraft that transported personnel of Pakistan armed forces
from West Pakistan to East Pakistan in 1971.
In 1972, Capt. Syed Shamim Akbar
was certified as Boeing 707/720B instructor pilot by the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) of USA. In 1974, he was certified
as McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30 instructor pilot by FAA. In 1979,
Capt. Syed Shamim Akbar was certified as Boeing 747 instructor
pilot by FAA.
Capt. Syed Shamim Akbar was PIA
Chief Pilot Training in 1970s and also served the airline as its
Director Flight Operations (DFO) from 1982 to 1985.
