President PIA Air Marshal Asghar
Khan addressing a new batch of passed out Air Hostesses at
airline's Ground Training School in late 1960s. Principal Ground
Training School Hafeez-ud-Din also seen in this picture. Note Air
Hostesses wearing uniform designed by famous French designer
Pierre Cardin. The stylish uniform which earned words of
admiration at domestic and international airports served by PIA
flights was introduced in 1966 under the management led by Asghar Khan. In January 1966, Asghar Khan was appointed to lead
PIA and during his three-year tenure the airline achieved lowest
aircraft accident rate and highest net profit of Pakistan Rupees
55,000,000 earned till that time. Asghar managed to adjust his
busy schedule as President PIA to attend ground school lessons
and underwent training to obtain Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
He successfully got his type rating on Boeing jets approved by
Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Very often Asghar was in
command of the aircraft during his travel on PIA flights as
airline's President. The designation 'President PIA' was used
because of American style of management introduced in the
airline by Asghar Khan |
