PIA's very
first aircraft AP-AFQ seen during her last days in this photo
taken by Joop in early 1980s at Hotel Midway House which was
located near Karachi Airport and jointly operated by PIA and
Dutch airline KLM. AP-AFQ was delivered as brand new aircraft to
PIA in February 1954 and faithfully served airline for ten
years. It was withdrawn from active service in 1964 and
partially broken up. The historic aircraft's surviving main
fuselage was used for cabin crew training from 1960s to early
1980s by PIA Training Centre at Hotel Midway House. In this
photo we also can see Hotel Midway House's new wing constructed
around the aircraft |
