747 is parked away from airport's terminal building and is sitting
on apron that was built to park Boeing 747s. The apron in-front
of airport terminal in use at that time was not capable of
handling weight of Boeing. The construction of
this new apron away from terminal building allowed introduction of Boeing 747 aircraft type
on flights from & to Lahore in 1980s. Nowadays this apron,
with a small building, is used as Hajj terminal for Hajj flights
operated with Boeing 747s. The regular & scheduled Boeing 747
passengers flights now use airport's new terminal building named Allama
Iqbal International Airport that was inaugurated on March 17,
2003 |
