Fog Season, A Different Strategy??

Post by Amaad Lone »

The fog season is soon going to hit Lahore, effecting arrivals and departures of most flights after 8pm uptill 8 am.

This year PIA should try something new.

For a period of three weeks, reschedule all flights to North America, which orginate in Karachi, and eliminate the Lahore stopover.

Make special arrangements to fly passengers every evening from Lahore to catch the international flights from Karachi.

While it would be difficult for passengers to go through Karachi, and spend an extra 4 hours on the airport, but would help PIA maintain the flight schedules to North America.

I remember having spent six hours in JFK waiting for a flight delayed due to fog.

Why creat havoc on your schedules, and make passengers wait for hours on international airports, when you can bring them into Karachi on time.

On the return flight another option can also be a stopover in Lahore, incase there is no fog, and letting some of the passengers get off there.

The national flag carrier number 1 should charter a few trains from Pakistan Railways. At least the passengers would be mobile.

Lufthansa does something similar in Germany. They issue tickets on ICE which is one of the trains running through out europe making many stops in Germany connecting the airline's passengers to many cities throughout Germany.

The ICE system connects the passengers to FRA.

This happens every year, yet nothing is ever done to make passengers get to their destinations quicker. I wouldnt want to be put in KHI when i paid for LHE, then taking the hassle to catch a bus or train up to LHE from KHI. Im sorry, but u cant compare LF to PK situation. I think India have got around this by introducing CAT III systems in Dehli?

Well in this situation a train ride from LHE to KHI is too long. The train running throughout europe is purely passenger convenience. I beleive that LHE needs the CAT III system but that is not PIA's fault now is it? That is the CAA if i am correct

With ~350 flights cancelled yesterday and another 350 or so cancelled at LHR today, LHE is not the only airport that is suffering with fog.

Im sure at LHR they had some evasive maneuvers planned. Knowing Pakistan they probably act like its something new to them every time.

Colorado had over 2 feet of snow yesterday, Over 2000 cancellations since yesterday, mostly by United alone which uses Denver as a Hub and the airport is still shut down. With persistant rain and low ceiling in Chicago, ORD and MDW are experiencing serious delays. I guess this is called Global Warming. I hope George is listening!

Over 400 flights cancelled at LHR in the end yesterday. Today (for 3rd day) all domestic flights and many European flights cancelled.

Mainly because LHR continues to be one of the few major international airports with only two runways. Schipol operates with five.

If it happens in London or Denver it is inspite of the best planning of the Goras, if it happens in Lahore its because the dumb PIA wallas never plan for it.

CAA Pakistan my friend, IS the planner. With their kind of money Pakistan can even install the research equipment at the main aerodromes. Alas! CAA again is the rehabilitation center for PAF retirees.
