Lahore flights delayed, diverted due to mist

Fog badly disrupts flights, trains schedule

LAHORE: The current weather pattern is likely to continue after a break of a couple of days with fog and mist badly disrupting flights and trains schedule Tuesday.

The weather experts said a trough of low pressure area lies over the NWFP and Kashmir. The Met Office has forecast partly cloudy weather with mist/fog blanketing the provincial metropolis today (Wednesday).

The Met Office said level of humidity in the air in the morning and in the evening was decreasing and this situation would be ideal for the fog phenomenon. A few thunderstorm/rain has been forecast in Rawalpindi Division while weather would remain partly cloudy in Lahore and Gujranwala divisions.

The Met Office has forecast dry weather in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan divisions. Maximum temperature Tuesday was recorded 14 C while minimum temperature was 7 C.

Relative humidity in the air in the morning was 93 per cent while relative humidity in the air in the evening was 81 per cent. Bad weather delayed the departure of almost all the domestic and international flights of the national flag carrier.

Lahore-Glasgow flight PK-793 was scheduled to take off at 0640 hours but it could fly at 1500 hours due to inclement weather. Lahore-Kuwait flight PK-205 was scheduled to take off at 2200 hours but the airport authorities had not confirmed its take off time till the filing of this report. Lahore-London flight PK-757 could take off at 1500 hours instead of its scheduled time of 1015 hours. Lahore-Manchester flight PK-789 was scheduled to take off at 0555 hours but it could fly at 1523 hours. Lahore-Bahawalpur flight PK-621 could take off at 1510 hours against its scheduled time of 0730 hours.

Lahore-Multan flight PK-610 took off at 1617 hours against its scheduled time of 1600 hours while another Lahore-Multan flight PK-623 was to take off at 1530 hours but the airport authorities did not confirm its actual time of flight till the filing of this report.

Lahore-Multan flight PK-331 flew at 1640 hours against its scheduled time of 1445 hours while another Lahore-Multan flight PK-385 took off at 1530 hours against its scheduled time of 0930 hours.

Lahore-Islamabad flight PK-388 was to take off at 2000 hours but the airport personnel had to confirm its flight time till the filing of this report. Lahore-Islamabad flight PK-616 flew at 1740 hours against its scheduled time of 1700 hours while another Lahore-Islamabad flight PK-386 could take off at 1810 hours against its scheduled time of 1400 hours.

Lahore-Islamabad flight PK-622 was scheduled to take off at 1100 hours but it took off at 1830 hours. Another Lahore-Islamabad flight PK-356 was scheduled to take off at 0800 hours but it could fly at 1430 hours.

Lahore-Karachi flight PK-303 flew at 1215 hours against its scheduled time of 1100 hours while another Lahore-Karachi flight PK-305 took off at 1830 hours instead of 1800 hours of scheduled time.

Lahore-Karachi flight PK-307 was scheduled to take off at 2200 hours but its flight time was not confirmed by the airport authorities till the filing of this report. Lahore-Karachi flight PK-315 was scheduled to take off at 0940 hours but it could fly at 1540 hours. Lahore-Karachi flight PK-331 was scheduled to fly at 1445 hours but its actual time was not confirmed by the airport authorities till the filing of this report. Meanwhile, all the upcountry trains reached the Lahore Railway Station late from one hour to three hours.

Lahore-Manchester-Toronto flight was also delayed due to the same fog. My uncle was on the flight last night and it came in 9.5 hours late and finally departed Toronto at 2 am compared to its original departure time of 6 pm. Thankfully the fog let up for a while and his aircraft was able to land at LHE rather then getting diverted to KHI.

But that's typical weather for Lahore in Dec./Jan., right!!
