Bad weather in Karachi diverts three flights to Nawabshah

Post by Abbas Ali »

NAWABSHAH, June 21: Three domestic flights of PIA made emergency landing at Nawabshah airport on Thursday evening. Karachi-bound flights PK-391, PK-589 and PK-541 coming from Sukkur, Bahawalpur and Moen-Jo-Daro with 116, 31 and 27 passengers respectively, made emergency landing at Nawabshah airport due to inclement weather in Karachi.

It may be mentioned here that Nawabshah airport is used as an alternate to Karachi airport.

Manager PIA Nawabshah, Syed Shoaib Shah, told Dawn that flights would take-off as soon as sky becomes clear in Karachi. The passengers were stranded at Nawabshah airport till the filing of this report.

Nawabshah tuned out to be a VERY POOR "alternate" for karachi, as it took almost an hour to open the lounge there which could only seat 40 people and there was no airconditioning.
So the 100+ pax from the 737 were shifted to the lounge while it was refueled, and the pax on both ATR's had to remain on board for over an hour. ASF Nawabshah did not allow the passengers to even disembark and stand outside the lounge, forcing them to remain inside the aircraft.

thats unfair....you can really say that about our pOlice but not these guys....i've noticed the ASF is really strict at small airports...
during my training i did my longest cross country chaklala-lahore-multan-lahore-chaklala..and at multan my instructor went out to pick two passengers who were to travel back to chaklala with us...

and once my instructor got out the ASF did not let him back in again (hhaahhaaha  ) though they did let the passengers go...

actually they do their duty well its not up to their discretion who to let in and who to hold back and they should follow the procedures religiously the way they did....

yet there should be a superior officer there to decide what should be done in unusual circumstances...now thats their fault...wouldn't you agree!? 8-[

Did any passenger file illegal detention case ? It will be a very obvious win for effected passengers.

thats wat does not make sense... they let the pax in... but not the PIC.... how stupid can they get?? ASF stop the wrong ppl at the wrong time!!! At OPRN, one ASF gaurd stopped my dad (Government PIlot) from entering even when he showed his airport card. He told my dad that he can't go in and my dad had to call the airport manager who immediatly suspended the gaurd due to his rude behaviour and swearing at a senior....

actually i forgot to mention that my instructor did not have ID although he was in uniform...

so the ASF did follow the procedure...and its professioanl at their level not to use their discretion...but at the same time there should be a senior there to toubleshoot in unsual circumstances...
