EU ban-PIA may lose 45 percent revenue
AMRAIZ KHAN
Lahore:- PIA WILL LOSE ABOUT 40 to 45 percent revenue if EU imposes
ban on its flights , an aviation expert confided to the Nation on saturday.
A PIA retired engineer currently working with a Gulf based airline said
that there was very interesting situation when EU inspection team visited
the Engineering departmaent of PIA at Karachi Airport and questioned the
officials sitting there but they could not respond. "There were 15 officials
sitting among whom only 3 belonged to PIA while the rest of the 12 were
retired from Pakistan Air Force and the team commented- so it seems as
if we are visiting the airbase of any airforce and not the base of a
commercial airline-."
When the team asked about any Accountable Authority , no one could
even follow the question and reply.
The team then asked about the Airplane Flight Manual (AFM) but there too
the officials remained tight lipped despite the fact that PIA carried 15
manuals approved by the Boeing, the retired officer maintained.
EU will now consider to impose ban on all PIA flights because PIA Engineering has been taken over by retired airforce engineers.Things have rapidly declined , another aviation expert said.According to ICAO standards and CAA's own specifications only qualified engineers holding valid Licence can hold post of Director Engineering, he revealed.

I dont think 45% revenue is at stake.
The two 777-300ERs have already taken over most Islamabad-London, Lahore-London, Islamabad-Manchaster and Lahore Manchaster flights, with a few flights being operated by AP-BGG (747-300).
This leaves the three Karachi flights for the combis and six weekly A310s flights into Birmingham and Glasgow.
Then around 14 A310 flights into Europe are going to be a problem, as the 777 would need replace the A310 on these flights.
Should PIA re-shuffle its 747s to North America via Istanbul, it should free up enought 777 hours to put them to Europe, causing minimum loss to capacity.'
But once again this is a short term solution, and PIA needs to re-vamp its maintainance practice if it needs to continue flying, because its only a matter of time before the 777 fleet is also reduced to the status of the A310s.
