I think everyone is referring to the same airport. East Midlands serves 3 urban centres; Nottingham, Leicester and Derby.taz95 wrote:Could you please specify what do you mean by Nottingham and not East Midlands. For your info Nottingham does not have an International Airport and East Midlands can operate International flights.CoyBoy wrote:Aero Asia have dropped Sukkur and plan to start Nottingham not East Midlands anymore.
In 2004 East Midlands was renamed Nottingham East Midlands Airport. This was a controversial move as the airport lies in Leicestershire, but has a Derby postal code so in December 2006 they renamed it 'East Midlands Airport - Nottingham, Leicester, Derby'!! What a mouthful eh?
Anyway long story short some people still refer to East Midlands as Nottingham East Midlands or Nottingham for short, see the extract below from wikipedia
However, as of the end of January 2007 the UK Aeronautical Information Publication, (a document used by the International Civil Aviation Organization and pilots worldwide) as published by National Air Traffic Services (a Public-private partnership of several airlines and the Government of the United Kingdom), was still listing the airport as "Nottingham East Midlands"
