Boeing 737 Taxi Speed Limits

Post by TAILWIND »

On 23 Dec I travelled UET-KHI on PK-363. On departure from UET, there was a PAF C-130 taxiing on secondary for line up on rwy 13. The Boeing also started taxi and was cleared to backtrack 13. I assume the controller must have asked PK-363 to expedite for line up before the C-130. Just when we got on the rwy, the pilot opened (almost) full throttle, the acceleration could be felt, the sound of engines everything was if the ac is going to take off from 31. The cabin crew, who were preparing for the safety briefing, looked confused, peeped out of the windows and rushed to their jump seats. Cant be exact but the ac must have attained 70-80 knots. on reaching the end of rwy, the pilot applied full reverse thrust, deployed speed brakes and executed a VERY fast pivot turn on dumbell 13 for line up and went for a rolling take off. The still confused cabin crew appeared back for safety briefing after about 5-6 mins of take off while we were climbing.
As few important safety aspects (e.g pax briefing) were ignored or rushed in the cabin, I wonder how many checks would have been rushed or missed in the cockpit. Is it a correct procedure for immediate take off?????
And by the way, whats the max taxi speed for Boeing 737???????

A surge of young blood perhaps. I think that high speed taxi is permitted on the runway. But the application of reverse thrust and the acrobatics on the dumbell will require an expert's comments.

No arguments about a surge of hot blood. But does the aircraft manufacturer allow non-standard operating procedures.?

I've noticed that QR has very high taxi speeds. They literally race the a/c to/from the runway.

A very common practice in the US. Cowboy flying they say.
Airline penalises pilots for missing takeoff or landing slots.
After all its all about the $$

Are there any slot timings on the domestic scene in Pakistan? It is nice to know that PIA has thought of penalising it's pilots for missing the slots.

hmm..i doubt there would be a slot problem in UET..of ALL the places in pakistan..so the fact that he revved the plane upto 70-80 knots and then executed a sharp turn is dumb..oh..lets not forget..in PIA ground taxi control is under the captain..not the co pilot..so it was the captain who probably did that..plus..if a junior f/o did that...he would be seriously reprimanded by the commander..unless the commander himself is doing such stuff..
