Qatar Airways chief visits PIA head office

KARACHI (September 09 2006): Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker, accompanied by Senior Manager Commercial Operations, Ali Al Rais visited PIA Head Office on Friday. Chairman & CEO PIA, Tariq Kirmani received him at the Karachi Airport.

In the meeting held between the Chief Executive of the two airlines, various options of commercial co-operation were discussed. It was agreed that two airlines would work closely to create synergy for enhancement of aviation activities in the region.

The two airlines agreed to establish through fares, exchange mutually beneficial SPAs and to pursue with their Regulatory Authorities for including article on code share In the ASA so that the two airlines can move forward towards code share operation between Karachi and Doha and to other destinations.

Qatar Airways also showed interest in uplifting meals from PIA Flight Kitchen and for Ramp Handling of Qatar Airways flights in Pakistan by PIA. The two airlines agreed to pool their resources wherever possible.

The Qatar Airways CEO also visited PIA Engineering facilities and newly constructed Operations Control Situation Room in PIA Head Office. He expressed his satisfaction over the talks and hoped that the understanding reached between the two airlines would go a long way in developing the aviation industry in the region. Meanwhile Akbar Al Baker flew back to Qatar on his private airplane the same evening.-PR

After 5 months down the road the cat is out of the bag. The gift of A310 and the Ispahani hangar's impending sell out are pointers in the right direction.

This is good news a deal with Qatar Airways along the same lines as the Emirates and Sri Lankan will be hugely beneficial for PIA. Its the only way PIA will sort itself out

It isn't so. The base maintenance sell out is the replica of PIA flight kitchen and TGS. A virtual rip-off with no improvements.
