Oh, that's why the check-in counters for PIA closed early today, and not many pakistani people to be seen at Copenhagen Airport, as I work at the security. What a chock..

Well it's norwegian, so I'm not the right one to translate..
Anyways it mentions that it was the Co-Pilot, a 59 year old man, that got stopped by the security, as they reacted on his behaviour, and claimed that he smelled of alcohol.
An alchol test, taken by the police, resulted in positive, and stopped the departure of the flight.
The co-pilot, is in police costudy, and will be charged with breaking the law on airsafty, as the police still awaits the blood results. The aircraft, an Airbus A-310, which was supposed to deprature 1.00 PM has been delayed to 1.30 AM until further notice.

Pak airlines co-pilot detained after alcohol test

Sunday, August 20, 2006 (Stockholm):

A Pakistan International Airlines jet was temporarily grounded in Oslo, Norway, after the co-pilot failed an alcohol test, police said.

Airport police acted just before the 1 pm (1200 GMT) takeoff after receiving a tip. The 49-year-old first officer was detained by police.

"He will be in custody until Monday, when court proceedings are scheduled,'' police officer Morten Teie said.

"The result of the blood test is expected on Monday. Depending on the percentage of alcohol, he could face a prison term.''

Teie confirmed the first officer is a Pakistani citizen. His name was not released.

The aircraft, an Airbus 310 bound for Copenhagen, Denmark, and Islamabad, Pakistan, was rescheduled to take off at 1:30 am (0030 GMT), said a spokesman at Gardemoen International Airport north of Oslo. (AP)

The pilot should be fired.

Endangering the lives of passengers, plus has caused the airline financial loss plus loss of reputation.

Pilots caught drunk on duty should be removed, no exceptions.

Nothing, absolutely nothing......The pak embassy in Oslo and other diplomatic channels will spring into action to save the involved PIA crewman coz he must be son, son-in-law, nephew or cousin of some bigwig thats why he was flying for PIA in the first place.

On a serious note, given the life style of an airline pilot, i.e plenty of trips abroad, ample apportunity to wine and dine (leaving aside the religious aspects), why should someone indulge in an act like this where he jeopardises his career, airline's reputation and above all national honour. Couldn't he wait a few more hours to be back in comforts and security of Pakistan or done it a bit earlier, one must remember '12 HOURS BETWEEN BOTTLE AND THROTTLE'.

Does the following headline in Norwegian mean pilot sent to prison for four weeks?

Promille-pilot fengsles for fire uker

News Source: http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=127292

Promille = alcohol level

Fengsel = prison

Fire = four

Uker = week

I hope someone can translate the whole news item.

I used following two sites to translate the headline:
