LAHORE: The Government of Pakistan has approved in principle to allow Mahan Air (link: www.mahan.aero) of the Islamic Republic of Iran for two flights in a week from Lahore to Tehran and back. The airline’s inaugural flight for Tehran will leave on July 5 from Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport.
Mahan Air is a private airline of Iran which has appointed M/s TSY (Pvt) as its General Sales Agent (GSA) for Pakistan.
TSY is already connected to 5400 offices worldwide and the only travel company in Pakistan to float ‘online ticket rates with fixed pricing’.
Zia Haider Rizvi while talking to The News said that the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) had approved the flights while the formal sanctions would be issued within next few days. He said there was no direct flight for Lahore-Tehran-Lahore for the last many years.
He said the passengers traveling to Tehran and from Tehran to Lahore had to stay for about 12 hours at Dubai Airport with no hotel facility.
He said the start of Lahore-Tehran-Lahore flights by Mahan Air was the result of open sky policy of President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz adding the two flights in a week would strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations.
