PIA announced last week that due to the US non committal operation of direct flights from PAK due security reasons at PAK based airports just announced today with less than 24hrs notice that the following flights will be affected this week and will also make a technical stop at MAN -
pk783 pak-yyz
pk724 jfk-pak
pk790 yyz-pak
This is apparently due to the action of some B777 pilots who are on a 'go slow' demonstration involving minimum crew rest/allowances.
i.e. basically once again our passengers are facing another struggle in trying to come to terms with the 'goings on' at PIA and the self-rightous crew who are being worked like camels in the desert
Its another to the corporation and to the ground staff who are struggling trying to keep some sort of face of the airline.
I feel this is not going to be the last flight to end up at MAN these coming weeks.
The introduction of the LR flights was to be a stepping stone for PIA and not the straw that broke their backs

It costs only US $ 2000-2500 for a B 777 to land at Sharjah + fuel is vv cheap from there too + the attractivness of DXB being near by and 5th freedom traffic.
A B 772LR can easily fly nonstop with a full cargo and pax load from SHJ to JFK and therefore instead of paying higher fuel and airport charges at MAN...the PIA route network planning team should look into re routing its JFK flights via SHJ for which it has permission to carry 5th freedom traffic as Pakistan-USA have open skies and so do UAE-USA.
For YYZ, the flight should stop at SNN and not MAN...but PIA has 5th freedom rights on DXB-YYZ-DXB route so this is a possibility too as the current off season loads on the nonstop flights are 45-50% and with traffic carrying capability allowed for DXB, loads and yield can definitely increase as no airline flies DXB-YYZ-DXB nonstop and Etihads A 332 (ex TAM plane product) is not as good as PIAs in J and Y class!
What Ive written above only applies if US bound nonstop flights are not cleared!

PIA has been cleared for and IS operating KHI-JFK. US TSA has not (as yet) cleared ISB/LHE for direct operations, but will do so as soon as they comply with a few shortcomings that were noted during an inspection.
Is it only the flights for this week that are being changed, and PK 783 will be direct starting next Sunday, April 9th?

SENIOR, do you have any info about the definite start date of JFK non-stop flights. PIA website is displaying the MAN stop till the end of April. Will the non-stop flights start in the first week of May. I am flying PK723 ISB-JFK on May 11 and I have to finalize my domestic flight from JFK. Thanks

means a stop for re-fueling and security checking purposes...in 99% of the cases its for re-fueling purposes only but in this case of PIAs its for both.
People;
This is new news for me, but if it is true then PIA has still not been a long way. With ref to the direct flight to JFK from all the three stations in Pak i.e Khi, Lhe and Isb will not be operated in near 3 months. According to the yesterdays meeting of PALPA with PIA, they have demanded a total of 72 sets of flight crew for the LR (Direct) flights and a strike has been held to fly direct flights to JFK and Toronto untill the total no. of cockpit crew is around 72. Currently PIA only has around 15-20 sets.
Lets hope for the best.
Unfortunately, our MAN summer schedule has shot up from 17 flights a week to 24 flights and that does not include some of the YYZ flights which also seem to be dropping to MAN with little notice.
There is still no positive news as yet as to when LR direct flights will resume.
Basically, anyone's guess is as good as mine

I did post some concrete news of yesterday, and I am sure that this is the only problem why aren't they providing non-stop flight. Everything else about the security measures and blah blah is not correct. Their must have been some of such problems but they were surely granted permission for the non stop route to JFK.
Aaah it feels good to be back in this forum after so long!!
AN reported that JFK-KHI is going non-stop. My father was booked on PK722/05Apr departing late out of JFK @ 0040hrs (12:40 A.M.) on the 6th with an STA (schedueled time of arrival) of 2330hrs (11:30 P.M.) on the 6th into KHI. I verified this information from our system here at Lufthansa and through his travel agent that the flight was going to be non-stop.
Boy were we wrong. I felt that I should check again meanwhile my father is checking in at the counter. Unfortunately the flight was going via MAN with a delayed arrival of 3hrs later into KHI at 02:00hrs on the 7th. What is going on? What did I miss?
