Anyone with more info on this? The post on A.net does seem a little dramatic.

Thanks for the info Senior. Does PIA keep any spare parts at MAN? Considering the number of PIA flights at MAN, I would have thought it would be feasible to keep some parts there, which could also be used at LHR in case a plane goes technical there.

spare parts
Spare parts for all aircraft to a certain extent are actually kept onboard all aircraft in flight packs loaded in the forward hold and some kept in a compartment in the aft bulk hold, but as always is the case when there is a technical problem, you can never have the part as required at the time and alternatively they have be sourced locally.
Considering the number and logistical problems in storing such items off station (outside KHI) and the number required its almost impossible to have everything required at any one time.
Considering the aircraft arrived back to MAN @2200LT having turned around at Frankfurt. The crew were practically out of hours and after serving dinner onboard before disembarking the pax to go to hotels the decision was made for a night-stop.
The following day is a battle ground for the ground engineers in trying to rectify the internal engine problem and trying to negotiate with MAN airport authorities to allow for a final engine run to declare serviceability.
