KARACHI: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is committed to facilitate passengers from reservation to destination for which we are branding PIA.

Chairman and chief executive officer PIA, Tariq Kirmani said PIA’s domestic market growth was up 28 percent in 2005 owing to increased demand from major cities like Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad.

Addressing the members of 21st Century Business and Economic Club and overseas universes Alumnai Club on Friday, he said, “Fuel prices remain biggest challenge for us. 40 percent of the revenue goes in loss if carrier is old.”

PIA as major representative of the country competes on international level, sharing a tremendous responsibility of the country, he said. Mr Kirmani said new aircraft would be launched while some old ones retired. Rebuilding of some old aircraft was also in the pipeline. Tail of PIA carriers on domestic routes would be given a modern and better look.

He said SATS, a Singapore franchise has been assigned to work on PIA’s kitchen that would help to improve menu and food quality. “PIA was working on a plan to facilitate customer to use mobile phone and credit cards for reservation, which was on trial basis”, he added.

On service standards, he said, “ This section has been computerized and working more effectively. We have established employee leadership team and management committee. After every six months we are hiring professional and talented fresh blood.” He said PIA introduced new tail scheme to highlight the culture and tradition of Pakistan, for this PIA were designing different traditional things, places and names from all province on its aircrafts’ tail. staff report
