KARACHI: PIA has introduced ‘Standby Special’ fares for the convenience and comfort of passengers, which allows them to avail a 50 percent discount on travel between Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad and Peshawar. The special fares are also applicable to travel between Lahore and Islamabad.
This facility is tailored to suit those passengers who plan to travel at the last moment and are unable to purchase tickets or make reservations. In order to avail this facility, the passenger should contact PIA’s Standby Special check-in counter at the airport two hours before departure and enroll himself as a standby passenger.
After the flight closes, the standby passenger will be called out in order of the list.
This facility is applicable to one-way travel and economy and economy-plus fares, effective February 15, 2006.

THIS has potential for abuse unless it is fully automated. I can just picture some long mustache dude coming in late crossing everybody on waiting list and walkin in just cuz his buddies 'advised' him to come in late and take 50% off. Have this thing be fully automated, u sign in on a website and get ur queue number, get to the airport, u should already know from the website how many people are ahead of you in line etc.

Its the same kind of service that is being given by Daewoo Bus Service but it is quite interesting to see that those passengers will get ticket at 50% less rate of the original price of the ticket... Now everybody will try to enroll himself in that list and will be in hope to get the ticket at much cheaper price
