SATS wins PIA tender to manage Karachi flight kitchen

SINGAPORE: Singapore Airport Terminal Services has signed an agreement to provide technical services to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The services include the management of PIA's flight kitchen at Karachi, as well as to establish quality management systems and improve processes.

SATS will also help PIA to improve and develop its inflight meals.

For the second phase of the collaboration agreement, SATS and PIA will set up a joint venture to provide inflight catering services at airports in Pakistan.

The joint venture company's business will be managed by SATS.

The Singapore ground handler and airline catering services provider was selected after a comprehensive tender and evaluation exercise. - CNA /ct

Singapore SATS To Collaborate With PIA

SINGAPORE (Dow Jones)--Airport ground handler Singapore Airport Terminal Services Ltd. (S58.SG), or SATS, Wednesday said it has signed a broad-based collaboration agreement with Pakistan International Airlines Corp. (PIAA.KA).

SATS, a unit of Singapore Airlines Ltd. (S55.SG), will initially offer PIA technical services such as managing the Pakistan airline's Karachi flight kitchen, and at a later stage form an inflight catering joint venture with PIA, it said in a statement.

Apart from managing the Karachi flight kitchen, SATS said it will invest in upgrading the kitchen and inflight catering equipment, and help to improve the quality and variety of PIA's meals in the initial phase of collaboration.

That joint venture to be undertaken in the later period will be through SATS associate, Aviserv Ltd., and will provide inflight catering services at Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore and other airports within Pakistan, SATS added.

"SATS was selected after the completion by PIA of a comprehensive and transparent tender process and evaluation exercise, in which other reputable international inflight caterers also competed," PIA Chairman and Chief Executive Tariq Kirmani said in a statement.

He didn't say who the other bidders were.

Great news. SATS runs a tight ship and will hopefully be a much needed positive influence on PIA's inflight "kat-ring".

I recall SATS were going to set up a flight kitchen in a joint setup with Akber Enterprises in the early 90's why was that dropped? something happened last minute.

Congrats, very good news, so will the catering be only specified to KHI flights only ?
