PIA slashes fares on international routes

LAHORE: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided in principle to introduce common rated fare for its destinations in Europe besides reducing fare on other international destinations, sources said on Monday.

Sources said that reduction in fare from 8 percent to 12 percent which would take effect from today (Tuesday - January 24, 2006) was being introduced on national flag carrier’s destinations in UK, Europe, US and Saudi Arabia.

The reduced fare on the above mentioned destinations will remain valid till May 31, 2006. “The national flag carrier management is following aggressive market selling strategy and every step is being taken to improve the financial health and win the confidence of passengers,” sources said.

Sources further said that the PIA would be charging from Tuesday (today) common rated return fare of Rs. 47,730 for Economy Class for London, Manchester, Birmingham, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris, Rome and Milan destinations. Earlier, the national flag carrier had been charging Rs. 54,800 on the Economy Class return ticket for London, Manchester and Birmingham, Rs. 52,600 for Economy Class return ticket for Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Paris and Rs. 49,300 for Economy Class ticket for Rome and Milan destinations. The national flag carrier would charge from today (Tuesday) Rs. 75,000 instead of Rs. 83,400 for Economy Class return ticket for New York, Chicago and Houston. While PIA would be charging Rs. 30,970 instead of Rs. 36,770 on Economy Class return ticket for Jeddah and Rs. 25,520 instead of Rs. 30,550 on Economy Class return ticket for Dammam and Riyadh.

Spokesman for PIA when contacted confirmed that the national flag carrier had announced reduction in fare on various international destinations and new fare would be effective from today (Tuesday - January 24, 2006).

I suppose these fares are all not counting taxes. Besides the low season is now in effect so I don't know what they're on about. I'd like to know the C class fare from KHI to LHR and back.
