The place is going to get a facelift both inside and out, a pre-qualification tender was placed in todays papers inviting architecturalf irms for the purpose.
I guess to make it compete with Le Meridien opening just across the street.

I know Sheraton is being built in ISB and a new 5 star hotel at LHE Airport too. I forgot the name of the LHE airport hotel...Hilton was rumored.

Behramjee, a few years back there was construction started at Lahore Cantt area, on the same road which leads to Hajj Terminal and Rahat Bakers are also on the same lane few yards away from the site.behramjee wrote:I forgot the name of the LHE airport hotel...Hilton was rumored.
That site was for Sheraton Hotel but unfortunately that project was stopped and was still on hold upto my last visit to Lahore in May 2004, possible due to security reasons in Cantonment area.

Possible that 5 star hotel allocated some space there and its good to have a 5 star near the airport. PC / Avari are now far away from AIAP as compared to the distance between PC / Avari and old building of Lahore Airport.

Turkmenistan's capital Ashkabad has two Sheraton hotels including the 'Four Points' brand, Baku in Azerbaijan has two Hyatt hotels, both countries came into being in 1991 after the USSR broke up.
Pakistan had been around for 40 plus years at the time and was a somewhat hot tourist destination in the 60's and 70's yet the only foreign hotel here was the Inter-Continental chain.

actually all this talk of new hotels is good i guess. But what is really needed is more management companies also. As far as i know the main management company for hotels in Pakistan is the Hashwani group, with management rights for almost all major chains in the country. e.g. the PC's, Marriotts's and i hear the Serenas also.

I dont think the Serena hotel is managed by the Hashwani's or more particularly Pakistan Services Limited.atmalik wrote:actually all this talk of new hotels is good i guess. PSL manages PC line of hotels. Whilst the split brother manages the Marriotts. The two borhters only have the surname in common, nothing else. Bitter feud amongst them.

yeah i know that. but the last time i was in Pakistan, one of my friends told me that the Hashwanis are over looking those also as they belong to the same sect. Even with the 2 brothers managing different chains, theres not too much in competition is what i meant. you really are working for the same people. Unless it has changed, as i have been abroad for some time now. So that might not be the case, as i had been told by people who worked in those companies.malpensa26 wrote:The Serena is exclusivley owned by THE AGHA KHAN guy
