On February 7, PIA Board of Directors (BoD) meeting has given principle approval for cadre-wise salary adjustments for airline's employees.
The decision was made in response to rising inflation, according to PIA spokesperson. The last salary increase for PIA employees was made four years ago after which the rising inflation rate has severely affected employees' living conditions.
The salary increase will help retain experienced personnel within PIA. Total number of PIA employees has fallen below 7,000 and continues to decline rapidly, PIA spokesperson added.

Is there still a ban on hiring?Abbas Ali wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 11:07 am On February 7, PIA Board of Directors (BoD) meeting has given principle approval for cadre-wise salary adjustments for airline's employees.

The Supreme Court ban was lifted in July 2023. The last hiring advertisements were in September 2023, which fizzled out because they decided to privatise the airline and said no inductions till that happens.Usman123 wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 8:23 pmIs there still a ban on hiring?Abbas Ali wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2025 11:07 am On February 7, PIA Board of Directors (BoD) meeting has given principle approval for cadre-wise salary adjustments for airline's employees.

We all know how that went down. So perhaps a self inflicted, unofficial ban?

I think everyone in the management is waiting for privatization, and don't want to jeopardize their position by pulling something extraordinary to get into the limelight and get fired as soon as the privatization goes through, everyone wants to play safe and save their jobs for the new ownership shift in near future!
Don't see PIA going into next fiscal year as government ownership, IMF won't let that happen and Government is probably waiting for UK ban to be lifted to have another bidding attempt and hopefully the last one !

Keep increasing salaries of the employees. Yet pilots on the 320 will keep resigning because who doesn’t want to fly for the ME3. Every month, at least 2 cockpit crew from the 320 fleet are resigning with great offers from the ME3, especially Qatar. (Fact; figures can be checked with the airline). Yet the management in Islamabad loves to increase the salaries because it favours the captains the most. Who already have a great “net monthly” salary. Do everything but don’t give an add for cadet pilots because how will you justify the shortage then and how will the 60 plus captains fly until 65 and how will you ensure 70 plus hours a month flying for the current cockpit crew. So use the ban, privatisation, Supreme Court, “No requirement” notion and anything to justify NOT hiring cadet pilots. OR, talk about hiring 5 cadet pilots in the recent morning briefs so that the senior 5 first officers on ATR can be paired with the current permanent captains on the ATR and be promoted to the 320. Then merge that add for 5 cadets with an add for 5 captains on the ATR on contract so that you never have to worry about captains on the ATR anymore. This was the recent plan. Selfish thugs in Islamabad who get everything done by sucking up to Amir Hayat.

Oh and not to forget; the current Director Flight Ops is due to retire at the age of 60 this year in September I believe. Off-course he would love to continue flying by getting re-hired on contract till 65. So why would he ever have a vision to hire cadet pilots knowing that fresh induction can rightfully sabotage the shortage that exists. Icing on the cake is the fact that CEO Amir Hayat is from the PAF; guys who hate allowing new, young, talented, capable civilian induction. It’s shocking how there has been no need for cadet pilots in 9 years? (last add where hiring was done was in October 2016). 9 years and not a single cadet hired. But every pilot retiring gets a contract for 5 years and around 7 to 8 internal employees (mostly cabin crew) who had flying licenses were internally hired on an internal advertisement as ATR first officers.

An ad for just 5 cadets? What a ridiculous plan and a disgraceful train of thought. It comes across as some charter company rather than the flag carrier.AP-BGY wrote: Mon Feb 10, 2025 6:51 am Keep increasing salaries of the employees.
