PIA flight avoids mid-air emergency en route to Dubai

A Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Karachi to Dubai successfully managed an in-flight emergency near Muscat, that lead to a swift descent of 26,000 feet in just six minutes, according to the airline’s spokesperson.

Flight PK-213, which departed Karachi at 2:05 AM, encountered a hydraulic system malfunction over Muscat. The pilot promptly declared an emergency and coordinated with Muscat Air Traffic Control (ATC) and radar.

The pilot’s expertise helped in addressing the hydraulic issue mid-flight, and the aircraft continued safely at a lower altitude of 10,000 feet.

The flight landed in Dubai without incident, completing its journey after an hour at the reduced altitude.

Upon arrival, the Airbus A320 was inspected and cleared for its next flights to Islamabad and Skardu.

On September 23, PIA Airbus A320 (aircraft registration AP-BLY) flight PK213 departed from Karachi at 2:05 AM and landed in Dubai at 3:00 AM. The flight was scheduled to arrive in Dubai at 2:55 AM.

The A320 cruising at an altitude of 36,000 feet over the Gulf of Oman descended to altitude of 10,250 feet near Muscat before landing safely in Dubai.

Later, the aircraft, left Dubai at 4:47 AM as flight PK234 to Islamabad. Flight PK234 was scheduled to leave Dubai at 4:15 AM.

According to news reports:

On September 23, PIA Airbus A320 (aircraft registration AP-BLY) Karachi to Dubai flight PK213 descended from altitude of 36,000 feet to 10,000 feet near Muscat due to low cabin pressure warning indication received in the cockpit.

After landing in Dubai, inspection of the aircraft found that cabin pressurization warning was apparently incorrect and the aircraft was cleared to resume flying.
