Why PK798 is facing 48+ hours delay

Post by b78709 »

Why facing 48+ hours delay second week in a row. Yesterday, Weather was not as bad as Friday last week. Never the less, the airport was operating both last Saturday and today. Is Crew duty hours limitation causing cancellations?

Maybe some technical issue with Boeing 777-200LR aircraft registration AP-BGZ?

AP-BGZ as flight PK781 from Islamabad arrived in Toronto at 8:43 PM on March 10.

Flight PK798 to Lahore was scheduled to leave Toronto at 9:00 PM on March 10.

Maybe due to delay in the arrival of PIA Boeing 777-200LR registration AP-BGZ in Pakistan from Toronto, her sister ship AP-BGY performing Medina to Islamabad flight PK714 was diverted to Karachi to perform Karachi to Toronto flight PK783 today.

AP-BGY Medina to Islamabad flight PK714 landed in Karachi at 2:05 AM.

AP-BGY left Karachi at 5:32 AM as flight PK783 to Toronto with a delay of 2 hours & 22 minutes. Flight PK783 was scheduled to leave Karachi at 3:10 AM.

PIA Boeing 777-200ER registration AP-BGK apparently as substitute aircraft left Karachi at 5:35 AM to complete Medina to Islamabad flight PK714. It arrived in Islamabad at 6:59 AM as flight PK714. Flight PK714 from Medina was scheduled to arrive in Islamabad at 4:20 AM.

The 200-LRS are regularly facing these issues. About time they are sent to the hangars for maintenance checks. AP-BMH and AP-BMG have crew bunkers if i am not wrong and have flown to YYZ before, those two can fly in the meanwhile. Wonder why the 300-ERS aren't used for YYZ flights.

We need to learn exact reason. First, the flight departure time was changed from 9pm to 11pm well in advance in accordance with the weather forecasts. At 11pm on 10 Nov Toronto storm had stopped completely and airport was reopened. Then flight was cancelled & opened for next morning at 6am departure on 11 NOV. Then overnight departure time was changed to 11am. Then flight cancelled again. Then, flight finally departed on Sunday. This happened two weekends consecutively.

The frequent cancellations are either due to crew non-availability in which case Passenger denied boarding compensation is required as per Canadian law. Or, as other airlines are doing, arbitrarily cancel the flight in which case, no denied boarding compensation is required by current Canadian law. PIA cannot continue with arbitrary flight cancellations at Toronto.

Today PK790 left Toronto with a delay of 16 hours. PIA needs to fix its Toronto schedule.
