Fighter aircrafts dispatched?! What the heck! What does this whole thing mean? Problems with aircraft's communication system/transponder or something else?

Czech, Hungarian jets escort unidentified Pakistani Boeing 777
Two JAS-39 Gripen aircraft of the Hungarian Air Force were scrambled on Thursday to identify a Pakistani Boeing 777 airliner which did not transmit any identification, the Hungarian Army said on its website.
The Pakistani plane, en route from London to Pakistan, entered Hungarian airspace in the evening hours of Feb. 27 and the pilot did not make contact with Hungarian airspace control.
The Hungarian military had advance warning, as before entering the country it also failed to identify itself to Czech air control as well, and was escorted to the Hungarian border by the Czech Air Force.
It remains unclear at the time of publication why the Pakistani aircraft refused to identify itself.
Incident happened just after the Defense Commission of the Hungarian Parliament held a meeting at the Kecskemét Air Force base in central Hungary, where the Gripens military aircraft are based.

Either the pilots at fault here for not noticing or the aircraft systems are in such a poor state that they are not working. This is definitely a serious incident and no doubt with raise concern with European aviation officials.

Re: Incident: PIA B772 over Germany and Czechia on Feb 27th 2020, loss of communication
PIA denies occurrence of the incident and says that it has not received any report from cockpit crew or any aviation regulatory body. The aircraft had not lost communication with air traffic controllers and it was not escorted by fighters, says the airline. The aircraft was in contact with Slovak air traffic control. After receiving confirmation from cockpit crew the aircraft was allowed to maintain flying on a direct route by Hungarian air traffic control.

Was there any update on this? Apparently one of the pilots was related to Maryam Masood, the one who veered the ATR off the runway in Gilgit.
