According to news sources, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Karachi has opened investigation of 34 cases against PIA. The cases were pointed out in airline's ten-year (2008-2017) audit report.
Cases include:
Establishment of flight academy in Nawabshah
RBD department
Boeing 777 cabin upgrade
Catering contracts
Flight kitchen services
Hiring of 457 employees with fake educational documents
Procurement of spare parts that were not required
PIA Premier service
ATR 72-500s lease
Airbus A320s lease
German CEO and Airbus A310-300 (AP-BEQ) sent to Germany
FIA has finalized names of officers who will sit in space/room provided by PIA at airline's head office in Karachi to conduct inquiries of cases in airline's ten-year (2008-2017) special audit report. Schedule/days have been allocated to FIA officials for visit to PIA head office.
FIA has initiated investigation against Aviyan Aero (aviyanaero.com) for failing to provide hundreds of used and new aircraft tyres to PIA despite receiving USD 200,000/- advance payment from the airline.
Recently, a news channel reported shortage of spare aircraft tyres at various stations of PIA in Pakistan. However, PIA spokesperson clarified that the airline has sufficient number of spare tyres at Karachi Station from where they are sent to various stations when required.
According to news sources, FIA has begun investigation of six Airbus A310-300 aircraft that were acquired in 2003/2004 on ten-year dry lease from Airbus Asset Management by PIA.
The six A310s powered with Pratt & Whitney PW4000 family engines were registered in Pakistan as AP-BGN, AP-BGO, AP-BGP, AP-BGQ, AP-BGR and AP-BGS.
Later, all these six A310s were purchased by PIA on February 16, 2012. PIA's last three active A310s were phased out from airline's fleet on December 31, 2016.
It's alleged that PIA made maintenance payments for these aircraft to Airbus in violation of rules & regulations. Maintenance record of the six aircraft is sought by FIA from PIA Chief Technical Officer.
According to details, near the end of aircraft lease term. PIA sought return of 57 millions dollars spent on the maintenance of these aircraft. Airbus handed over aircraft to PIA instead of paying amount claimed by the airline. The aircraft were handed over for 32 million dollars. Airbus issued a credit note to PIA for remaining 15 million dollars. So far, PIA has not received credit note payment.
FIA has sought list of PIA Managing Directors from January 2004 to June 2013. List of PIA Chief Technical Officers and Chief Engineers from 2004 to 2012 is also sought by the investigation agency.
Under Supreme Court orders, FIA is investigating various PIA cases.
Capt. Nadeem Yousafzai who was Managing Director PIA in 2012 has recorded his statement before FIA and in his statement has held responsible then Chairman PIA for the deal.

Lahore, 16 February 2012: PIA and Airbus signed an agreement for transfer of ownership of six Airbus A310-300 aircraft which were acquired by the airline on lease in year 2004.
Transfer of ownership of the six aircraft to National Flag Carrier is another step forward in implementing the Business Plan under vision 2020 and will help PIA save about 2 million Dollars monthly rentals which will help greatly in reducing its losses.
The agreement was signed by Managing Director PIA, Mr. Nadeem Khan Yousufzai and Director Airbus Asset Management, Mr. Patrice De-Puymorin participated by Deputy Managing Director PIA, Mr. Salim Sayani, Director Corporate Planning, Mr. Irshad Ghani, Othman Ghedira, Sale Director Airbus Middle East, Pascal Lesaulnier Vice President International Development Middle East European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company N.V. (EADS) and other senior officials of PIA.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an investigation into alleged corruption in buying A310 aircraft in 2012 for the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), it was learnt on Monday.
The deal was struck by the then chairman Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar in the year 2012 with the cost of $30mn and $15mn additional were spent over the renovation of the aircraft.
According to the FIA, the planes despite the heavy amount spent on their renovation were grounded after one year, which cost Rs5 billion losses to the national exchequer.
Mukhtar was asked to appear before the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for probe into the matter on June 20, but he skipped.
Sources said former MD PIA Nadeem Yousufzai has also been summoned for the probe into the scam.
FIA has begun investigation of the alleged financial irregularities in PIA Medical Department. The investigation agency has asked the airline to provide department's financial record from year 2008 to 2017. The department's budget rose due to irregularities.
Medical record of airline's more than two dozen employees (serving & retired) including their medical and CNIC card numbers and other data also sought by FIA for the investigation process.
FIA has started investigation of alleged corruption in PIA medical department. The investigation agency is investigating billions of rupees fake bill payments. Former PIA Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Nayyer Hayat will be questioned on January 9. Former PIA Assistant Manager Planning Safdar Anjum will be questioned on January 10.
PIA Assistant Manager Planning Safdar Anjum is accused of giving contract for medicines to a company established in his brother's name.
FIA has issued notices to former Chairman PIA Ahmad Mukhtar and airline's three former Board of Directors (BoD) members including former Governor Punjab Makhdoom Ahmed Mehmood in the case of the transfer of ownership of nearly twenty-year-old six Airbus A310-300 aircraft to PIA from Airbus Asset Management in 2012.
The six A310s (aircraft registrations AP-BGN/O/P/Q/R/S) built in 1992/93 had been acquired on dry lease by PIA from Airbus Asset Management in 2004.
These six A310s were phased out from PIA fleet between 2013 and 2016.
FIA investigating acquisition of six used Airbus A310-300 aircraft by PIA in 2012 has issued notices to a former director of the airline and number of officials belonging to airline's Engineering & Maintenance Department.
