Boeing Offers to Convert PIA Boeing 777-300ERs Order Into Boeing 787 Dreamliner

According to news sources, Vice Chairman of The Boeing Company and President and Chief Executive Officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes Raymond L. Conner has written a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and appreciated steps taken by Pakistan government for the improvement of PIA.

Mr. Conner has offered Boeing 787 aircraft and technical assistance for expansion of PIA operations. The airline also has agreement with Boeing for the procurement of Boeing 777 aircraft, according to the letter. Boeing wants to revive the agreement.

The letter says that Boeing and PIA have a long history of good relations.

News media sometimes make mistakes in Urdu translation of such documents.

According PTV News, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has asked concerned authorities to consider/study offer made by Boeing for the conversion of five Boeing 777-300ER aircraft ordered by PIA into Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft under a legal way.

Boeing 787 is suitable for PIA Premier service destinations in Europe and Asia, according to letter written by Vice Chairman of The Boeing Company.

I don't think anyone should be walking on hot coals just yet, this is simply a suggestion and offer and not a confirmation. This proposal has been made before as well but only consider it believable once the decision has been officially announced as accepted, and in my case when I see models of these 787's in the PIA livery.

For the last few decades I thought PIA was Pakistan International Airlines NOT Pakistan international Airways. Boeing having worked with PIA for the last 50 years should get the name right.
Goes without saying, this may be a good business opportunity for those involved.

Well this is not something new and has been discussed for quite a while, the most recent being Farnborough and this is definitely an official letter that's for sure and the kind of letter that would be required to initiate a dialogue, the clincher being 'that will help make a better case for eventual privatization'. He's definitely been briefed and knows how to grease the biggest ego first, although I find it strange that Boeing should have to write to the PM about this when its really a matter for the airline management to ponder and decide about not someone who cannot tell an Airbus from a Boeing, forget a 787 from a 777.

Well those 777-300ER delivery slots must be very valuable to Boeing as opposed to the 787, hence the offer and PIA by giving up those 77W delivery slots can negotiate itself a good deal, possibly for more than just 5 787's and a mix of the 787-8 and 787-9.

The engineering dept will need proper training and facilities for composite repairs as well as that is a very expensive process as well.
