Faisalabad Airport to be Upgraded

According to May 11 newspaper reports, Faisalabad International Airport will be upgraded to accommodate Boeing 777 aircraft flights. The estimated project cost is Rs. 1200 million.

Business community of Faisalabad will also offer their help in upgrading airport of their home city. The project also aims to improve air cargo facilities for traders. Faisalabad is known for its textile industry.

Presently, from Faisalabad PIA is operating flights to/from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Karachi using narrowbody Boeing 737-300 and widebody Airbus A310-300 aircraft.

Dude they constructed a new runway in last 20 years to accommodate airbus aircraft rather than just fokkers and 737 so ur wrong at this. noticeable thing is old runway has crosses on it to avoid landing but it is not even used as a taxiway.
But the 777 thing ahem ahem more like impossible. for the time the airport could not accommodate the airbus and 777 was off course not there (in fleet) it`s like why don`t they land a 747 here ending all passengers congestion.

To remind you people a bomb blast had left PIA reservation office in Faisalabad half collapsed(about 2 years from now targeted nearby). Did they do anything about reconstruction here?

December 8 - According to PTV News, today Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf at a public meeting in Faisalabad announced expansion of Faisalabad Airport.

Improved facilities: Faisalabad Airport to be upgraded, says FCCI president

FAISALABAD: The government has decided to upgrade the Faisalabad Airport, the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Mian Zahid Aslam said on Thursday.

He said the governor had informed the Civil Aviation Authority managing director about this via a letter sent on November 27.

Talking to reporters, the FCCI president appreciated the governor's directive and said that the upgrade was proposed by the FCCI during the governor's recent visit to the FCCI.

He said that the matter would also be taken up with the prime minister during his visit to Faisalabad on December 8.

He said that direct international flights from Faisalabad and an upgraded airport were longstanding demands of the business community and the citizens of Faisalabad.

He said that Hajj flights had started to operate from Faisalabad and so it would not be difficult to start international flights by upgrading some infrastructure at the airport.

He said that along with passengers, a lot of cargo for international destinations had to be sent via Lahore and other airports.

"With direct international flights, the business, trade and industrial activities in the area will get a boost. This will give the region economic growth as well," he said.

According to PTV News, today Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali attended a meeting in which expansion and upgrading of Faisalabad Airport was discussed.

During the meeting it was stated that with the help of Faisalabad's business community Faisalabad Airport can be upgraded and expanded in four years time.

According to presentation given at the meeting, Faisalabad Airport limitations include:

* Airport has single departure lounge and arrival lounge for both domestic and international flights operation.

* Only one widebody Airbus A310-300 aircraft can be parked at a time.

* Boeing 777 cannot land at the airport.

Completion time is projected four years, amazing, quite amazing. Four years would be required just for expansion & renovation????? A brand new airport could be constructed in this period.

This sher ali pretends to be the owner of faisalabad city. Now lets see if he really invests that money into airport expansion which he will beg in the name of airport expansion.
Faisalabad's "business community" is no longer the same as it used to be in good times. I wonder if they can follow sialkotees.

* Airlines including Pakistan's AirBlue and UAE's Emirates and Etihad Airways have shown interest in starting flights for Faisalabad. The entry of foreign airlines at expanded Faisalabad Airport will help in boosting revenue.

Expansion of Faisalabad Airport was discussed today during meeting between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and elected representatives of Faisalabad division.

During the meeting, Prime Minister said that report/plan should be prepared for expansion of existing airport or construction of new airport under public-private partnership.
