Karachi Airport to Get New Passenger Boarding Bridges

Post by Abbas Ali »

Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) tender notice in today's (February 24) newspaper for supply of a total of 12 passenger boarding bridges for Jinnah International Air Port (JIAP), Karachi, to replace the existing boarding bridges installed at the airport.

Is installation of these new boarding bridges related to making Karachi Airport ready for Airbus A380 operations?

Could the old bridges be used again for smaller airports like FSD,PEW and UET?

Based on the tender notice, it doesn't look like this is to upgrade the existing bridges, so I'm curious to know if there are maintenance issues with the existing bridges or if 20 years is the lifespan of the things?

i hope the karachi ones are glass like dubai otherwise who could tell their new...lol

and new ISB was to have 15 gates? hopefully they use all 9 as international and not 5 intl and 4 domestic ..that would be a waste in my opinion

They probably won't be the glass ones because CAA earns significant revenue from the advertising installed inside and outside the bridges.

Tender cancellation notice appeared in April 27, 2012 newspaper.

But I think at least for the new terminal building of Multan Airport and new Islamabad Airport, CAA will issue a new tender notice for the procurement of boarding bridges.

Advertisments can be places on glass lined bridges too. plus there is always solid place for such posters.

Good News... But as far i think they are only going to install new bridges in place of existing bridges and there will be no any changes.
If they are replacing the bridges so they should at-least create double bridges at one gate of International terminal which should be use for A380 Operations at jinnah Internation KHI or ISB.

Hope Karachi airport is modernised to handle the a380 because emirates would be eager to operate a380 opertaions at khi as they serve it 6 a day
P.s i would be able to capture my first a380 ever
Jumbo is just not a plane, it's a legacy !

Replacement of passenger boarding bridges (quantity 12) at Karachi Airport is in contract signing process.
