Former PIA Boeing 747-217B (ex-AP-BCL) without engines photographed at U-Tapao Rayong International Airport, Thailand, on April 24, 2011. The 1974-built Boeing 747 was scrapped/broken up at this airport recently.

Following is brief history of this particular Boeing 747 airframe:
Construction number 20929. First flight November 15, 1974. Registered in Canada as C-FCRE for CP Air (Canadian Pacific Air Lines). Delivered to CP Air on December 2, 1974. CP Air aircraft tail number 744. Aircraft named "Empress of Italy". To PIA, December 18, 1985. Registered in Pakistan as AP-BCL. In 1997, aircraft named "City of Quetta" to celebrate Pakistan's 50 years of independence. Aircraft withdrawn from use in 1999 and stored at Karachi Airport. Aircraft reactivated and returned to service. Aircraft withdrawn from use and registration AP-BCL removed from Pakistan Aircraft Register on October 29, 2005. Sold to Orange Air, November 2005. Registered in Sierra Leone as 9L-LOR, January 2, 2006. Registered in United States of America (USA) as N899TH and leased out to Orient Thai Airlines, January 10, 2007. Seen as derelict airframe at U-Tapao Airport in Thailand in February 2007. Registration N899TH cancelled in May 2007.
