Spotting in Pakistan - best airports

Post by deaphen »

Hi guys and girls from across the border:

First of all i have to say that i have been reading your forum for a very long time now and i must commend all of you for your enthusiasm and moral! I live in Chandigarh, India and am an avid aviation photographer.

I needed a bit of information about spotting in Pakistan. Could someone enlighten me onthe best airports for plane spotting? Is spotting allowed or are there strict laws against it like we have in India?

It would be great if someone could advise me on which airports i could visit, and anyone who i could contact there to meet up with to go plane spotting. I am currently in my final year of law and will travel a bit before getting my license to practice.

Also, my grandfather and grandmother lived in Lahore till partition, so i will literally be coming home! :)

Anyways, waiting for a reply,

Regards

Welcome to forum Nitin.

Under Pakistani laws photography is not allowed at airports. Especially at country's bigger airports like Karachi, Islamabad & Lahore it's not easy to take photos due to presence of heavy security.

I suggest you take PIA flight to towns like Gilgit, Chitral, Skardu etc. which are excellent places for tourists plus because of lesser restrictions, I think photography is easier at airports of such smaller towns. And if you see any security force person close to you always ask him before taking photos to avoid problem.

Hope you enjoy your stay in Pakistan.

Welcome Nitin!

Well you have to realise that the laws and security is very stringent at Pakistani airports just like they are in India. If you are spotted by the airport security and you being Indian could complicate things (im sure you know what i mean.. )

Unless the Lahoris or photographers in Pakistan can PM u any good locations i would be very wary of taking photographs of aircraft in Pakistan.

I noticed alot of pics at Mumbai are taken from a secret location (in the slums at the airport).. unless you can find a similiar place in Pakistan .. i doubt u will be able to take some close up snaps..
