Re: Plan to Develop Central Business District on Walton Aerodrome Land
It’s sad to see Walton go! Have had amazing memories there since I was a little kid. Authorities should keep it open until they construct the new facilities in Muredke. Shutting it down so suddenly is not fair to all the students, instructors and others at Walton

Re: Plan to Develop Central Business District on Walton Aerodrome Land
Fair points BUT some onus does fall on these clubs for their silence when housing societies took over Walton land. There is a residential TOWER barely 500 feet from the runway, were they all blind when it was being built? I agree, WBD is another useless idea, someone saw the land and their tongue (and jaw) fell out. No government has ever promoted GA in Pakistan, one of the reasons why many like me left for greener pastures instead of trying to battle the anti-aviation mindset in this country. In my opinion (and limited experience) this has a lot to do with the restrictions placed on GA in Pakistan for the common man - in the US, everyone and anyone can walk into a flying school/charter shop and go fly - in Pakistan, you need to jump through months of red tape before being permitted anywhere near an airplane. Ask the masterminds at the top why they keep aviation so tightly restricted.gooner wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 6:42 am The government planned and approved a project without even consulting the major stakeholders at Walton. All decisions are being taken from the very top level. Being in the middle of a densely populated area is no excuse for moving the aerodrome. GA airports are mostly in the midst of a densely populated area, there's a reason for that too.
The WBD is just another pointless project in the name of foreign investment. I hate being political here but if only the govt could initiate such projects for GA, the aviation industry would actually boom.

Why this land is not managed by LDA instead of a new authority?

This interesting article attempts to explain. As far as I can make out it's because the land is CAA reserve in a former cantonment.

Re: Plan to Develop Central Business District on Walton Aerodrome Land

Walton Aerodrome Air Traffic Control (ATC) tower demolished recently.

Some of general aviation aircraft stranded/abandoned at Walton Aerodrome. The airfield's runway is no longer available for flight operations. These aircraft after their disassembly/wings removal can be shifted to any other airfield by surface transportation for making them airworthy again.
A number of aircraft owners flew their aircraft to other airfields including Lahore Airport before the closure of Walton Aerodrome on May 25, 2021.
