The one from major leasing company. Forgot name. Have to Google.Sherry3002 wrote:^Which B772's lease will finish next year? AP-BHX?
Pakistan can choose to buy it or extend lease, considering it's already painted seat map etc. Most likely PIA may until it hits 20 years of age.

How come BHX is configured with PIA's standard seats but BMG/H are not? Is it due to the duration of the lease or are the lease conditions different?CoyBoy wrote:AP-BHX is leased from AerCap formerly known as ILFC. as are the Vietnam 777s.

Probably because it was brand new straight out of the factory so the had the liberty of getting their own configuration, also it was the first 777 to wear province tail.

Having 787s would be really good for PIAUmar Farooq wrote:Someone told me PIA may lease three of B787 from Boeing.

I don't think so. Technically, PIA will not able to efficiently handle it.Abdulrafeysiddiqui wrote:

I'm inclined to agree with this. They will need composite training and know how which will be very expensive and chances are they will have to outsource repairs to another country. Those planes will be sitting ducks for bird hits.Umar Farooq wrote:I don't think so. Technically, PIA will not able to efficiently handle it.Abdulrafeysiddiqui wrote:

And if they do get 787's I'm thinking it may end up being similar to the 777 deal whereby they get multiple variants i.e. 787-8, 9 and 10 or just the -8 and -9 again all depending on how many a/c are involved.

Surely financially and technically it would be difficult at begining but flying 787s for European or ME routes, which ever is technically suitable, will be just nice choise leaving 777s for USA or some new routes for Australia. We already have 777s so what I think is that bringing innovation would be good for the airline.

Acquiring multiple aircraft models and variants is not a problem, but maintaining them is really a big job which require extra ordinary efforts.
An airline like PIA, should strict with minimum number of models and variants to perform efficiently.

That's why PIA should have only one narrow body and one wide body type only. It should keep different variants of the family of aircrafts instead of the totally different aircraft type. Now, consider if PIA only keeps 777s, it will stil require a 250 seater wide body. For that, instead of going for a different type, PIA can plan to go for a family, that has 250 seater as well as 350 seater variants. These will not only replace 777s, but also fill the gap between 777s and A320s. Keeping in mind, we will be replacing 777s after 10 years, it is better to plan today. I guess 787 family has this potential. It will not only fill that gap, but also will be fully capable to replace 777s including the LRs. On the narrow body side, PIA should transition to neos in 10 years. A321neo is a very flexible platform. On high density routes, it can carry 240 pax. While the 97.5 ton version (LR) can fly more than 4000nm with 206 pax. These aircrafts will fill all the requirements of PIA, while retaining commonality.Umar Farooq wrote:Acquiring multiple aircraft models and variants is not a problem, but maintaining them is really a big job which require extra ordinary efforts.

I agree, maybe 3 or 4 different types will be required by PIA for different routs.
But keep in mind that only acquiring and operating new and new aircraft types is not the problem, and not a solution.
"Maintaining" a safety, operation and maintenance level is the basic issue. An airline already in financial crisis, operating 4 different variants in A320s with about 16 different type of component groupings, 4 different variants in B777, 3 types of A310s, 2 different variants of ATR, and further looking for A330 and B787 at the same time with an option to A319, B737-8 & B747-8, doesn't make a sense.
