Aren't there concerns about 787 being new and all? The 777 is tried and tested and has decades in service.
This isnt defence industry where you go for tried and tested in battlefield. 787 is way more fuel efficient than 777/330CEOs and dozens of airlines are operating them regularly. Also PIA being a point-to-point airline, aircraft of 787 class are better suited for it.
Also 787 had its problem where it was grounded for much time, but it got fixed.

Many airlines also place heavy orders, because boeing is tried and tested. Like bombadier or russian or chinese aircraft don't get many foreign orders, but if new 737 is announced, it gets 2000 orders before even being operational.

The author has old information.

The terrible teens are gone.

777-300ER is a great aircraft Emirates has like 130 of them problem is PIA cannot fill them

Other then London and Jeddah there is not route where PIA can use a 400 seater.

So the other best option is a cheaper to fly 300 seater which is the 787.

United and PIA do not have the same issues. PIA would be lucky to get anything brand new.

An airline that has lost near 300 billion in the last 12 years is nothing but a financial burden on the poor people of Pakistan.

So is PIA actually going to get any new aircraft?
They couldn't even get the 5 x 777 order going, and now we're hearing of 8 x 787.
Where's the money for these aircrafts ?? I thought the finances are not healthy, when entities like PSO are owed money, etc.

What's your source?

Cuz it doesn't make sense. It's not like they had order for 50 777s. 5 is a small order

Six 787 to start off with and two 777 should not be a problem for them..

3 b777 do not equal the cost of 6 787s.

PIA guys have made things so ambiguous. First they announced order of 8 787s and no agreement was signed with Boeing, now they are talking about negotiations with Airbus. Looks like they would end up leasing some vintage 777s or more of the very expensive wet leased 330s.

Is it not best to negotiate with Airbus if it gets PIA the best planes at the best price, be it Boeing or Airbus planes.

It does not look like we will end up buying/leasing everything or nothing

The last thing PIA needs to do is rush in regarding the new plane purchases, lets wait and see, patience is a virtue.

No word on the 787's. When are they going to arrive or is it a rumour that PIA is going to purchase them? :-k :-k

As i remember that the Boeing 777-300ER x 5 units was a firmed order in PPP gov tenure; has there any news appeared at time for financing or payment being made to Boeing for acquisition of these brand new fleet?

Can someone recall / summarize any details here please of the actual order?

As far I remember, a US bank was the financier of this deal.
