Best option for PIA will be to go for B737-700ER which has a maximum range of 6350nm with aux tanks. Though it carries lesser payload but then it will be the darling of marketing deptt who doesn’t have the potential to do better than this. It can fly nonstop to many European countries probably excluding UK. In my opinion the best choice if we can afford other than this is B787.

The topic is about narrow body aircraft like B737 and A320.
B787 is wide-body aircraft designed to replace A300, A310, A330, A340, B767 and larger version of B757 family.
As far as 737 accidents are concerned, since 737 is the most ordered and produced commercial passenger jet of all time that's why naturally more 737s are involved in incidents/accidents compared to other aircraft in its category.
The fact is that Boeing 737 is world's most popular medium range, narrow body airliner.

Actually only future model 787-3 (2010) will fit the mid range and medium capacity definition.
Otherwise, both 787-8 (2008) and 787-9 (2010) will be more of Longer Range (15000+Km) aircraft with medium capacity. 787-8 will be better suited for airlines like PIA that have multiple domestic hubs.
Smaller 200 pax airplane with ability fly non-stop to/from North America from/to Pakistan. PIA will be able to offer daily freqeuencies from North America to atleast two of its hubs with 787-8 without lowering its fares and yet able to fill all seats on the plane.

Europe has been replaced as R&D hub by India/China and there is decreasing demand for stopovers in Europe. American businessmen now need to fly to Asia non-stop and thus the market for these aircraft.

Gentlemen,
For all I know, if A310s need to be replaced, they should be done by any other wide body aircraft be it B787 or A330.
A321 indeed has a reasonable seating capacity, but it still isn't a wide body a/c. And if I were to travel to Europe as a passenger, trust me, I would prefer travelling on Emirates or any other airline because they fly bigger planes, and I would not want to sit in a cramped plane for 7-8 hours continously........

I would like to know some details.truth wrote:Confirm News PIA has finally signed deal with 7 A320, starting from Jan 2009
So far Airbus official website (www.airbus.com) is not showing it in its press releases section.
Does it mean Airbus A320 has been approved by PIA's fleet planning department and the airline is going to acquire brand new A320s through aircraft leasing company ILFC (www.ilfc.com) or GECAS (www.gecas.com) ?
Btw, at the moment ILFC and GECAS websites are also not showing such deal with PIA in their press releases section.

Personally, I wished to see new generation Boeing 737s replace our ageing Boeing 737-300s. But, anyway, people in PIA fleet planning department know better which aircraft is more suitable for the airline.

Is this decision in sync with the Flight Ops dept? I mean they have equated ATR with 737, does this mean the equation stands terminated?truth wrote:Confirm News PIA has finally signed deal with 7 A320, starting from Jan 2009
The pace of training new cadets is pathetically slow and I doubt they will b operational on 737 before A320 replaces it.
