Looks like the PBBs have arrived =D> . I hope they get installed by October 2016. If they are going to upgrade the runway according to the recent advertisement/tender, there is a possibility that A380 will land some day.

There were rumors that no of bridges will be increased from 12 to 18. (The contract includes the dismantling & disposal of the 12 old passenger boarding bridges and the design, manufacture and installation of 18 new electromechanical glass-sided Apron Drive models, along with 12 walkways and 30 rooftops also designed and manufactured by ADELTE. Source: adelte.com).

Anyone got news about that? Also because there is space for 9 bridges at each satellite.

Barcelona, 25 of May 2015 – ADELTE recently signed a contract with the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) to improve boarding operations at Jinnah International Airport, Pakistan’s largest international and domestic airport, ,next to the city of Karachi.

The contract includes the dismantling & disposal of the 12 old PBBs and the design, manufacture and installation of 18 new electromechanical glass-sided Apron Drive models, along with 12 walkways and 30 rooftops also designed and manufactured by ADELTE.

To complete this gate solution, ADELTE will also deliver 12 innovative PCAs ZEPHIR (45T and 90T) of its GSE range.

The new Passenger Boarding Bridges and Ground Support Equipment will serve a wide range of aircraft, adapting perfectly to the current and future needs of airlines operating at Karachi and will offer maximum safety and comfort for over 16 million passengers traveling to/from Karachi annually.

“Pakistan is a growing market where we already have experience providing airport equipment. The PCAA is very demanding and is willing to modernize its airport infrastructure and enhance operations with ADELTE’s high quality technology, products and services. We are very confident that this contract will consolidate a long term relationship” comments Jordi Floreta, Vice-President and Commercial Director at ADELTE.

As always ADELTE will offer a high-quality, turnkey solution that complies with the highest standards.

According to the actual plan (link given below), each satellite concourse has capacity for maximum 8 bridges, and according to ADELTE website they were given the contract for 12 walkways. My guess is that some of them will be double gates. Really appreciate Mr. Rehmat Aslam Baig for providing us with the photographs.

Fellow aviation enthusiasts might enjoy the following link. It has the actual plan for Karachi Airport, in case it would require expansion in future.

Could be. The ideal would be three bridges but according to A380 specs info, two bridges are also sufficient. They also have to increase the area of boarding lounge for for A380 compatibility, and not to mention they need to upgrade the width of taxiways and runways as well.

3 boarding bridges have been noticed at majority of airports serving A380, 2 for main deck and 1 for the upper deck whereas Karachi airport satellites are not in such design to install 2 bridges, 1 for main deck and the other for upper deck unless high modifications are made at the each gate location to accommodate both gates.

Here in Kuwait, 2 jetways get connected with A380, 1 for main deck and 1 for upper deck.

Most airports do have 3 bridges but it can be done with two bridges according to the following document by Airbus (page 23, 25). I flew on A380 from Jeddah airport and it doesn't have any bridges at all. Also A380 can operate from Karachi airport which is on the list of A380 compatible airports (page 5). I am glad that things are moving forward. Would be really good if British Airways, Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Singapore air, Cathy Pacific, Malaysian Air and one or two more from China will start/resume their service to Karachi.
