Substandard spare part cause Rs 1 billion loss to PIA

Issue raised in National Assembly

ISLAMABAD: To another call-attention notice moved by treasury legislator Mehnaz Rafi regarding the procurement of substandard spare parts by PIA through unknown firms, Parliamentary Secretary for Defence Major (retd) Syed Tanveer Hussain said that they were conducting an investigation against Javed Sheikh, who was responsible for providing substandard spare parts to the national flag carrier.

Mehnaz Rafi alleged that Javed Sheikh, by providing substandard spare parts to PIA, had caused Rs 1 billion loss to the airline. She said that it was a big scandal and it must be taken into account.

Hussain informed the House that they were collecting information in this regard, which would also be presented before the House. Israr-ul-Ibad of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and minority legislator MP Bhandara also demanded that the report must be submitted before the House so that they could assess the losses suffered by the PIA.

Even 10 years ago, there was visible difference in parts quality as far as PIA cabin interior is concerned. The plastic parts used to replace old ones in PIA 747 main cabins were of different color and density to the extent that even ordinary passeners like myself could notice it.

I heard from others, who have flown PIA 747 recently, that ordinary household barrel bolts are installed for use by pax to lock toilet doors.

that is poor maintenance. it is not bad stuff being purchased.... it is how what you request from engineering and how you store it. i know PIA has a tendency of ordering a 10 cent item and paying 20 dollars as minimum order price.

Unfortuantely, DGDPR also does the same. PIA does only what master is doing.

Deficient parts & components are quite regularly purchased by PK from nondescript sources. PK's Foreign Receipt Section should have all details in the very fat registers listed as Discrepancy Reports. Most all parts are never returned & have been paid for. Maybe, Aeroxchange under the supervision of its under cover Director, Jawed Shaikh, only added fuel to the inferno.
LHT will now probably go nuclear at PK as ERP consultants or whatever they wish to be called.

To tell a lie you have to tell more lies. I mean first UK Store then Aeroexchange and now LHT. There is only one solution. Apply UHT to the PIA ManCom.

Have heard the Sohail Mustafa is the new SVP P&L. You can look forward to more strangeness. He was GMPT during S. Khaqan, S. Islam & Sabre time. This appointment could be the first himakat of the latest Chairman. Understand another himakat on way is Babar Kamal as CE Quality Assurance.

That is QA Engg. (formerly QC). Javed Khan, I believe is SVP QA (Corporate & MIS). CE QA/Engg reports to Javed Khan as opposed to SVP Engg. under the new arrangement.
