Thank you inducedrag for sharing info. Is it painted in 'Pakistan Air Force' or 'Government of Pakistan' markings?

Apparently OOI in registration is a way to indicate the aircraft is 'Pakistan 001'.

Oxon!

Your information is somewhat faulty. No doubt there is Pak flag on the tail of the aircraft, but it has not been painted in PIA livery. There is a green band on both sides of the aircraft and a flag on the tail. It is by no means the PIA livery. It is in a sort of national colours.

New VIP Airbus A310 took Prime Minister to Tashkent

By Baqir Sajjad Syed

ISLAMABAD, March 15:
Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz flew to Uzbekistan in new VVIP plane gifted by Qatar last month. The Airbus A310 aircraft was given official livery and had undergone engineering checks at PIA facilities in Karachi.

The aircraft, which previously bore Qatari registration A7-AAF, was initially given AP-GOP as the tail number by Civil Aviation Authority. It was later changed to AP-OOI. However, no reasons have officially assigned for the change in the tail numbers.

The A310 has an image of a fluttering Pakistani flag on the tail, much like the old PIA livery before the airline decided to have regional motifs on the tails of its fleet. Additionally, it has green bands on both sides, which makes it quite distinct from PIA fleet.

The plane has three sections, one of which is exclusively meant for the VVIP. The interior has a beige and mauve colour scheme. All accessories in the VVIP compartment have pine wood effect.

This jet is the 13th in the country’s VVIP fleet which also includes G-IV, Cessna Citation V, Cessna Citation Excel, Learjet 35, Learjet 45 XR, Raytheon Hawker 400, Falcon 20, Cessna Conquest II, Bell 412 helicopters (3) and a MI-17 helicopter. Although, this aircraft was the oldest in the Qatari fleet mostly comprising modern carriers like A319, A320, A340-200 and A340- 500, it is still in excellent shape with substantially low hours on its airframe.

Critics see the induction of this aircraft into the VVIP fleet as a luxury, with the national flag carrier PIA struggling to put together a fleet that could continue operation to European Union countries after the 27 member bloc slammed operational restrictions on most of the airline’s jets because of safety reasons. PIA had to lease two aircraft for continuing its European operation.

The ViP aircraft is handed over to the airforce and they will be flying it, at the moment since no one from the airforce is rated on A310 so they are doing the training with PIA pilots and once they are fully trained the airbus will be handed over to them

Though on VVIP flights the the aircraft will have call sign PAKISTAN ONE or PAKISTAN TWO depending who is on board, but for training and positioning flights, call sign OSCAR OSCAR INDIA does not seem to be appropriate for an aircraft used by pakistani head of state/government. Or perhaps on such flights (no VVIP onboard) they will use the squadron call sign???? But normally on PAF transport fleet, the pilots dont use the individual call sign rather its is Pakistan Air Force followed by tail no e.g PAKISTAN AIR FORCE ONE TWO THREE.
by the way is it OSCAR OSCAR INDIA or ZERO ZERO ONE?????

It's AP-OOI (Oscar Oscar India) as stated by forum member inducedrag earlier in the same topic.

Pakistani civil aircraft registrations (AP-***) are always composed of letters and do not contain any numbers.

In that case there is no fun choosing OOI (OSCAR OSCAR INDIA). the other option AP-GOP (GOLF OSCAR PAPA) suggested by a forum member would have been more appropriate depicting the abbreviation Govt of Pakistan.

By the way if the aircraft is to be operated and maintained by PAF, then why have a civil registration. Military aircraft are free from CAA regulations and also have certain exemption from aeronautical/airport charges etc etc and direct routing through military/restricted airspace(on domestic routes) is an added advantage.

This a/c has not been gifted to the GOP or the PAF. Its a personal gift from the Qatari Govt to a one Mr.P.M. for a token sum of $1.

Thats all I was told.

Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz is due to travel to Hong Kong on March 26 and on March 28 President Musharraf on the invitation of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, will visit Saudi Arabia to attend as special guest the 19th Arab League Summit being hosted in Riyadh.

So, hopefully, we will be able to see VIP A310 in TV news reports.

The aircraft (A-313) has almost similar livery to PIA. Aside from Pakistan written in English & Urdu by the first door on the portside the aircraft has similar livery rest of the livery is the same, and I think there is flag of Pakistan on the rudder. PM Shuakat Aziz used the aircraft for the first time when he went to Uzbekistan.
