CAA says airports properly calibrated

Post by Abbas Ali »

KARACHI: Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) on Friday said the crash of PIA Fokker plan in Multan last July was not connected to any aspect of flight inspection and calibration of various facilities like instrument landing system, VOR/DME, PAPIs and radar at Multan Airport.

In a handout issued here, it said the inquiry report into the crash that claimed 45 lives has been submitted to Ministry of Defence.

“These facilities/systems are flight checked/calibrated within the interval specified by ICAO. For this purpose, CAA has an aircraft fitted with latest equipment in its flight inspection unit that is constantly engaged in carrying out the checks of the facilities,” CAA stated.

“Whenever, CAA owned calibration aircraft is not available due to any reason, it takes help from Pakistan Air Force to carry out the checks,” the authority said.

The national aviation regulator emphasized that all operational airports under CAA are within the safety limits as defined by ICAO. Currently, CAA is in the process of adding two additional calibration aircraft in its fleet, it added.
