LAHORE: The schedule of PIA flights was affected on Monday morning due to inclement weather in most parts of the country. The spokesman said that, this year too, the fogy weather (low visibility) had affected the flights to and from Lahore, resulting in “consequential†delays across the international and domestic network. PIA asked the passengers to check their flight timing by calling on 111-786-786 before coming to the airport.

Don't think it was anything to do with Emirates. It was to do with CAA of UAE. LHE will be updated to CAT III-B to allow technologically advanced aircraft to land in dense fog at LHE.
By the way the new cargo complex should be opening soon if it hasn't so already. Airport Technology has updated its website with new photos of LHE and stating the new cargo complex should be ready soon. http://www.airport-technology.com/projects/lahore/

Flights, trains, traffic hit by fog
By Intikhab Hanif
LAHORE, Dec 31: Thick fog blanketed Lahore and several other cities of Punjab on Sunday, badly affecting air, road and rail traffic, and intensifying winter.
In Lahore, fog further dropped temperature, making it the coldest day of the current winter. Sun peeped through the fog cover for a while in the afternoon but it looked pale and unable to warm up the cold-hit city.
Airport authorities reported almost a total disruption of the flight schedule, saying many incoming international flights were diverted to other cities because of poor visibility.
There was a huge backlog of flights, creating a great deal of inconvenience for passengers. But there was not much rush at the airport as the majority of the people were inquiring about their flights by telephone, the authorities said.

Thick fog blankets Lahore
By Zulqernain Tahir
LAHORE, Jan 27: Thick fog blanketed Lahore and its suburbs on Saturday morning and massively disrupted the schedule of all international and domestic flights. Fog covered the city after a gap of some 20 days or so. However, it made no visible impact on the current weather and temperature remained more or less the same. The minimum temperature of the city recorded by the Met office on Saturday was 8 degrees Centigrade and maximum 22 C.
The airport authorities said at least 12 international and domestic flights either left or arrived here more than six hours late than their scheduled time.
The authorities concerned found difficulty in catering to a large number of passengers arrived at the airport to leave for their destinations. Long delay in the departure and arrival of the flights also caused great inconvenience to families and those arrived to receive their dear ones.
The departure of the flights for Karachi, Islamabad, Multan, Glasgow, London, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Doha, and arrival of flights from Karachi, Islamabad, Multan, Jeddah, Doha and Dubai were delayed due to heavy fog.
The fog blanketed the city at about 5am that lasted for more than five hours. A meteorologist told this reporter that decrease in temperature caused Saturday’s fog that would likely to persist on Sunday as well.
He said haze had been reported in other parts of the province.

Fog disrupts air, rail, road traffic
By Intikhab Hanif
LAHORE, Jan 28: Lahore and several other cities in Punjab remained fog bound also on Sunday, badly disrupting air, rail and road traffic.
The fog forced suspension of the flight operation at the airport during last night and most of the day, causing a great deal of inconvenience to passengers. It was again suspended at around 9pm on Sunday because of the thick blanket of fog.
A large number of passengers remained stranded at the airport where authorities said there were no chances of resumption of the operation till at least 11am on Monday.
Surprisingly, temperatures did not dip as normally happens on foggy days in winter.
Met officials say the fog is being generated because of the change in wind direction from north-west to east and south-east.
“The north-west wind was cold and dry and the east and south-east was warm and moist. The combination in the present transitional period is generating fog which is likely to be cleared in the next few days,†a local Met officer said.
The city’s maximum temperature was 22.2 degrees Celsius and the minimum eight degrees Celsius with 93 per cent humidity in the morning and 73 per cent in the afternoon. People had to drive their vehicles slow and in queues to avoid accidents.
According to the Met office, fog had started developing in Lahore early last night, reducing visibility to just 10 metres at 10pm. It remained so till 8am on Sunday and finally cleared at 1pm. “It has again started developing and it will force suspension of the flight operation in around one hour,†a Met officer said at 8pm.
According to him, several other cities in Punjab including Sargodha, Shorkot and Faisalabad were also fog bound.
Lahore airport authorities said flights could be operated for a few hours, but this too created problems because of the huge backlog created as a result of the suspension of the operation during most parts of the day.
A majority of incoming flights had either been diverted to other cities or returned to their points of origin because of the unfavourable aviation conditions at the airport, they said.
Meanwhile, the Met office has forecast dry weather in the province during the next 24 hours with chances of fog in the morning in many cities.
