B777-300 tech ???

Post by SENIOR »

Ref the previous topic regarding the news about AP-BHV going tech at ISB.
I was just about to post some news regarding the topic but realised it had been locked out due to the thread being completley derailed.
As far as I could see I coudn't see anyone reporting any accurate details of what actually happened at ISB ???
I spoke to one of our engineers at MAN and he reported that the aircraft was parked at ISB and required a GPU - Ground Power Unit so the APU onboard could be switched off.
The GPU concerned used at ISB caused a power fluctuation causing a drainage/shorting out of the batteries on board making them practically unuseable even after trying to start the APU, power on board could not be restored.
Due to the new delivery obviously parts are not readily available and the parts were obtained after some lengthy discussions but the aircraft did depart but only 08hrs late not as reported 'over 12hrs later'.
Even I cannot give an accurate tech report but 'hearsay' can be quite damning if you don't speak to a qualified person.
Any lessons being learnt.... I guess not !!!!!

The NEW MANAGERS of PIA ramp handling should be held accountable for their lack of situation awareness. Unless they bring in latest and brand new GSE more delays on this account will occur. M/s Swissport of Espana does not enjoy an enviable track record.

Lets try NOT to start another flame war here. Abbas has thankfully locked the last topic as it exceeded the bounds of decency so let it not continue here.

I have worked on the ramp of LBPIA for may years and i have seen similar situations occuring time to time with GPUs, so its better either they fix this GPU unit or get new one, if they kept using same unit on other aircrafts it will cause similar battery oriented problems and can actually damage aircraft's electrical system too.

This was the reason why i said in last thread its not a big problem as i wasen't aware of what actually happened, it sounded as snag with new aircraft and it was senced as one of early teething problems similar to any new aircraft of the line. Senior thanks for sharing this information with us and i agree with MOIN please don't another start war there again..

Interesting, you work at Pearson. What airline do you work with? Just curious? Must be nice to be so close to jets.

Moin, DC10 is writing about the Ground Service Equipment which M/s Swissport is contracted to provide on top priority bases. As for the B777 discussion, let it roll.

GPU At the terminal in KHi and LHE, and stands at ISB are provided BY CAA Pakistan, and NOT PIA/swissport.

The faulty GPU belonged to CAA.

CAA does not provide GPU at Islamabad or any where. The GPU under investigation belongs to M/s Swissport , the new owners of PIA's TGS. It is not a coincident that GM of TGS now reports to AVM Gul. Partnership all the way.
