With a B74? Isn't AP-BIC suppose to be for Hajj Ops? Last time I heard this plane is not a PIA aircraft. This is the B74 that was sitting in KHI for over a year now.

Launching of “PIA Express†from Dec. 25
Friday, 22 December 2006
KARACHI, Dec 22 (APP): National carrier, PIA, has announced the launch of “PIA Express†from December 25, 2006 as a follow up to its strategic corporate policy of 3C’s - comfort, convenience and competitiveness.
The “PIA Express†started for the comfort of valued passengers, will be operated by a Boeing 747, on a schedule having convenient timings and for competitiveness will have fares lower by 20% than the normal fares.
“All this will be done with a smile starting from the reservation, to airport check-in, flight on board and finally their arrival and baggage clearanceâ€ÂÂ, a PIA spokesman said Friday.
The spokesman said as from December 25, 2006, PIA Express will operate on Karachi-Lahore and Karachi-Islamabad sectors. It will be a no frills flight, operating in all the three configurations - business, economy plus and economy. However, all the passengers will be served juice and cold drinks during the flight.
He said the sectors have been chose to connect the three most important cities of Pakistan having highest passenger’s movement.
Objective is to make them reach those destinations at cheaper faresrices and convenient schedules, he added. PIA hoped that it will win appreciation for this new initiative and become popular with the people of Pakistan because of competitive ticket, cheaper then any domestic carrier in the country.

I hope so.Is PIA going to paint AP-BIC in PIA Express markings?
I don't think they can call it no frills however. They have a 3 class config plus are serving peanuts and drinks. Why not get rid of these amenities, thus lowering the fare, which I think passengers will appreciate more than peanuts and water.

AP-BIC is the ex-ANA 742.
If they truly want a no frills theme, they should make pax pay for the food items available. They should keep a selection of sandwiches, cake slices etc and charge a nominal amount for them while offering drinks free of charge.
However the travelling public on these sectors may not understand the 'paying for food' concept resulting in not many people bothering to buy any eatables at all.

I hope this initiative does not turn out to be disastrous. I wonder if PIA is capable of making profit even at 20% less fare, how come they are sustaining “unprecedented†losses at the prevailing fares. I hope PIA management has done the needed home work prior to launching this initiative. Anyway, best of luck to PIA
