The retirement of B747 captains will reduce the average age of PIA captains tu 38 years. That 's nice.
Don't you mean 48.
How can the average age be 38, when the youngest captain (an ex-first officer of the A310), cannot be less then 35 or 40.
Plus there are a number of 777 captains in their 50s.
So I am sure the average is going to be 48 and not 38.

Whereas the officialy retirement date is, as someone said, 1 day before the 60th birthday, most pilots have leave that has accumalated over their careers, and this leave has to be taken. So usualy, they will do their last flight some weeks, or at some times over a month (depending on the exact amount of leave) before their birth days come around.
And wheras CAA might have accepted 62 as the age, the next questions is when will PIA do so?

Currently the average age of an ATR commander in PIA is 40+, for times to come this will prevail and donot see any less then 45 year old jet commanders comming up. Maybe after 10 years if there is expansion and not replacement of equipment then the average ages will drop and we might see some 25 year old turbo prop commanders.
With the stagnation that PIA has seen for quite some years, it'll have far reaching effects. The average service of an wide bodied commander in PIA is 21 years + and ages around 46+ for the B777's is 50+.
Back in the 70's the average ages of an B707/720 commaders use to be mid to late 30's, as they were getting their jet command in 9-10 years of service.
Right now it's a BIG deal to be a wide body commander in PIA, where as in the airlines around the region one will find early to mid 30's pilots as A310/300 commanders and late 30's to mid 40's as A330/340 and B777 commanders.
