Post by Abbas Ali »

ISLAMABAD: The test flight of newly inducted ATR 42-500 aircraft in PIA fleet was Friday successfully operated between Islamabad and Gilgit.

According to official sources the regular operation of PIA flights between Gilgit and Islamabad is to begin from Saturday (December 2). Two flights will be operated from Islamabad to Gilgit on daily basis. The new aircraft having a capacity of forty-eight passengers will help meet the longstanding demand of people of the Northern Areas and also promote tourism in the region.

This is great news :D, i hope PIA's maintenance personal will take these newer aircafts very seriously, not like Fokker similar to Ghada Garii !!...

So this means PAF's Herky Birds are already gone back or are in process of leaving PIA?... :(

I don't agree with you. PIA operated Fokkers for 45 years (1961 to 2006). Such a long period of time clearly indicates Fokkers were looked after and well maintained most of the time by PIA Engineering.

Excluding AP-BAL accident at Multan (because we're waiting for its official crash investigation report) PIA lost 13 Fokkers in various accidents. Most of them were lost due to poor weather, difficult route, in-experienced crew or pilot error. As far as I know, PIA lost very few Fokkers due to maintenance/technical problems.

Abbas,

The only reason i said that, i read in another thread regarding some maintenance difficulties on ATRs in Karachi where it stated something on lines like "Our Techanical staff while workingon think ATRs are same as Fokkers, so just let it go", well to me it sounded like pure carelessness with fedrial property and lack of respect and education on those maintenance personal who were working on that ATR....anyhow to me its not a big deal but i am sure people who will travel on these aircrafts will have big deal if they read that thread.....
I appologise if i offended you but i stated how i read in other thread....
