PIA operating C-130s on northern routes?

Post by ConnieMan »

A friend on mine today said along these lines that PIA is now operating PAF's C-130s on the northern routes that were flown by F-27s, he also said these are current replacement aircrafts for F-27s since whole Fokker fleet is now grounded after Multan's accident, any info on this.....

I'd like to try a flight on a C130. Does anyone know which routes exactly are they being utilized for?

The last time I flew on one was just over 4yrs ago, a cloud seeding operation over Sumatra. If you guys plan to taking a flight, invest in a good set of ear plugs.

The US Air National Guard/AirForce have specialized pax pallets (complete with airliner seats and a toilet/galley) that they install when using the Herc for cattle-car service. I wonder if PIA is doing the same.

Well I have flown PAF C-130 between Peshawar and Chitral (in early september). The other PAF C-130 flights are Islamabad-Skardu and Islamabad-Gilgit.

They are not so very comfortable. Extremly loud aircraft and you sit alongside the fuselage and not in rows in regular aircraft. Anyway it was a great experience. They even had 2 PIA airhosts on the aircraft serving sodas.

too bad you can´t look outside the windows :)

Kashif,

That must be one heck of experiance for you and will last forever in your memories.

Does anyone know how long Herks will be used on these flights?, if they will be serving PIA for a while then i might go to Pakistan just to fly couple of fights on these birds!!...it will be a life time experiance for me....

Skardu is with 737 not C-130, and Chitral is only operated from PEW not ISB.

Connieman:

It was indeed a great experience. My only regret is that I was not allowed to take pictures inside or outside the aircraft :(

Don´t know how long PAF will fly for PIA, maybe until the second ATR arrives.

Coyboy:

You are correct, Islamabad-Skardu is daily B737

Kashif,

Do you remember the aircraft number?, i am just curious if one of these Herks are actually ex-PIA aircrafts, PIA used couple of the Herks in early days for PAX service and then gaved them to PAF, from what i know one of those Herky birds still flies with PAF....

Its sad that they diden't let any passengers take pictures, i am sure there is nothing on board when used in civil service aircrafts. :(

Is there anyone else who might have taken pictures of these Herkybirds from out side as you do with rest of aircraft pictures....

Is the C-130 certified to operate commercial/revenue sorties?
