Illegal appointments in PIA - NAB rules out appeal option

Post by Abbas Ali »

KARACHI (November 10, 2006): National Accountability Bureau Sindh has decided that it will not file appeal against acquittal of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and others in Pakistan International Airlines illegal appointment reference, NAB's press release said.

PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, PPP MNA Ms. Naheed Khan and three others ex officials of PIA A.V.M (Rtd) Umer Farooq, ex-MD of PIA, Director PIAC Ghulam Qadir Shah and ex-section officer Najmul Hasan were acquitted by Accountability Court in Karachi on November 30, 2005 as prosecution failed to prove charge against them.

They were prosecuted for illegally recruiting 1,393 persons in different cadres in PIAC, posting persons abroad and promoting various officials rebuffing the rules. The reference was filed in 1997.

Prosecution alleged that former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and others misusing their authority and powers got recommended persons illegally appointed, up- graded and posted in Pakistan International Airlines through PIA authorities with intent to favour them in violation of corporation's rules and regulations.
