Just a thought, but if it isn't nailed down tight it doesn't belong in a Pakistani aircraft cabin.

If it is really portable, they better have really good inventory control on board. South Asians not just Pakistani's always look for a way to defuse a system of check and balances not implement it.

I believe the press release states PIA is purchasing Digecor's PORTABLE (read: handheld) system as opposed to what is typically called an embedded (read: in-seat) system.

It was a tongue in cheek remark about nailing down things in a Pakistani aircraft. Frankly, anytime a non-tethered device is made available to any audience, regardless of their ethniciity, they tend to a) disappear, and b) become damaged.

OK, I was right, PIA is purchasing the handheld product as opposed to the embedded version. Not my favourite. It's clumsy, has the propensity to be dropped, damaged and of course nicked.

All so confusing...

the more technology it has, the more difficult it is to use....
and most of the people who travel PIA have trouble with English aswell.

I think they will only use it in F and J class for the above reasons!

yeah...
the current EFI system on the 777s is quiet nice...
they've got the latest sms etc facilities on there.
removing it would be *STUPID*

And why do they even need this portable system??

If you look at the specs of the digEplayer XT, this is hard drive based system varies MAS 3000 (777 currenly uses) is not hard drive. All contents you see in-flight on MAS 3000 is transmitted to you by playing a Tape or maybe a DVD/CD.

What makes the digEplayer XT unique is that contents can be updated remotely becasue it supports wireless 802.11a/b/g etc and most likely MAS3000 requires special setup that costs PIA more money to support. The digEplayer XT uses the commericially available technology like wireless internet, USB 2.0 for flash drive, mouse, game controller purpose , Wireless and Ethernet traffic encrypted, Credit card swipe. Contents based on True DVD digital resolution MPEG4, MPEG2, video and MP3 Audio capable. If it supports 802.11 a/b/g, then it can send SMS too.
Hence the digEplayer XT content is easier to acquire from multiple sources.

However this is how look at this new toy on board.
