Quite to the contrary, its a promotion from a F/O to a Captain. When one first becomes a F/O you start with Fokkers and go up. Then as you become a Captain, you again start with the Fokker and rise up. Its the usual ladder up.

I don't have any doubt this was the last Fokker revenue flight. The replacements are arriving already, this aircraft was already flying its last flights even if this tragedy had not occured.

and i just heard that the F/o had no family in pakistan..his brothers and sisters and parents are all in saudi arabia..i'd hate to see what they must have gone through after learning abouyt this tragic loss...my allah give them the ability to bear this loss..ameen..

and this should be a tight slap on the face for all those government officials who had been griping all these years over what airacraft should be purchased to repace the ageing F27...

PIA officials have denied reports by a private news channel about grounding of Fokker flights. The airline says Fokkers will remain in service.

Dear All,

I would just like to take this opportunity to express my sorrow and grief for the families of the Shaheed of this terrible disaster. Allah sab ko tassallee atta farmaey, Ameen.

On another note, the reporters on Geo TV, were mentioning that many questions have been thrown up about PIA and its maintenance, management, etc. people will want answers to many questions. I hope PIA answers them and rectifies the situation that led to this.

Can the victims of this disaster be correctly classified as shaheed? Doesn't one become shaheed or martyr when they die for a cause? These people had no intention of dying for any reason whatsoever, so I doubt they can be called shaheed.

If you slipped on a banana peel and died breaking your neck, would that make you a shaheed?

Moin,

As far as i am aware, those that also die in an accident like this are also considered Shaheed. There are a few other situations where people are considreed Shaheed (maybe somenone more knowledgable will be able to give more exact information), its not only if you die in battle or for a cause. Allah ki rehmat bey inteha haiN!

Alas! After more than a decade of fair level flight safety by PIA, this tragedy occurred. I pray to Allah to rest souls of the deceased in eternal peace (A ‘men). A great human loss above everything, may God grant even patience to family & relatives of the victims to bear it with fortitude & tolerance.

Blame game is old habit of our masses and unfortunately, some of the private channels are adding fuel to fire by such non-professional and tainted reporting, what are they trying to prove?

PIA aging Fokker fleet is a concern, but they’ve already initiated Fokker replacement phase with induction of ATR-42s. Obviously, it will take time and no overnight changes should be expected. But, yes, I do agree that Fokker replacement issued was lingered on for years as I once heard of ATR-72 to be replacing F-27, which didn’t happen!

Anyhow, what had to happen, has happened and all I can suggest PIA officials is to have a quick re-check of their Fokker fleet especially of its engines as they are said to be not suitable for operation in hot and humid climatic zones. Especially in an arid city like Multan where temperature is creeping up near 50º! (Sorry for any rubbish statements regarding Fokker checkup as I am not aware of technicalities!)
