Why would SIA buy 777-200LRs when they are already operating the A340-500 on their ultra-long haul routes???
Unless they plan to scrap the A340-500 for 777-200LRs.
The deal sounds good if PIA has no hope of operating non-stop to the US.
Also PIA should only pick up the SIA aircraft if they are the 300ER model plus have common engines to the PIA fleet.

So Saleem what is your source???....to swap 2 SIA B-777-300 for PIA 2 B-777-200LR.
I hardly think PIA will swap two latest 777-200LRs with GE engines for two basic model 777-300s with RR engines, introducing a new maintainance nightmare.
I would agree with Moin, sounds like cabin crew gossip.
Once such gossip was that the 777-200ERs that PIA got were used.

It would make more sense if they were swapped for the 300ER.
SIA placed an order for 32 (19 firm & 13 option) 777-300ER in 2004.
PIA would do well to swap the LR's with the 300ER of SIA. With their own 3 ER's to be delivered soon plus 2 more from SIA, they can retire some of the 74's early.
The 300ER's could easily do PAK-USA-CAN non-stop with full-load, except IAH I think
SIA is seriously evaluating the LR's. When the 5 A340-500 were ordered, SIA had 5 more on option. But those options were cancelled almost 6 months ago.
If the swap is for the basic -300, its foolish. But then again its PIA, they have a good track record of doing this sort of stuff... the 747-DC10 exchange, leasing and then buying the CX 743's.

I think this whole story is nonsense.Saleem Hatoum wrote:....to swap 2 SIA B-777-300 for PIA 2 B-777-200LR.
Please don't spread story like this with out any sources. Even rumors have sources.
Mr. Saleem You can't just write "to swap 2 SIA B-777-300 for PIA 2 B-777-200LR" And nothing about where You have heard that from/sources ect.
If we want to have, and contuniue a serious forum at HOP, I think that we have to be more aware of what we are writing in this forum.
Just my opinion.

SQ won't be getting the -300ER until the fall/winter of this year.....considering that SQ will have the same kind of F/J-class interiours on their 777-300ER as they will on their A380, I doubt SQ will be wanting to "switch"..Amaad Lone wrote:Why would SIA buy 777-200LRs when they are already operating the A340-500 on their ultra-long haul routes???

also, though PK can't fly Pakistan-USA, they have been flying Pakistan-YYZ-Pakistan nonstop, and should be able to fly USA-Pakistan nonstop...
finally, the -200LR allows PK to open more routes.....
